First, tell us what you feel separates your business from other operations in the show pig business?
I think two things really separate us. Far and away, the reason we have made the progress we have is we try to do everything for the right reasons. We’ve experienced the ups and downs of the showpig industry, so we can really relate to where people are coming from, and we try to treat people how we would want to be treated. The second big reason is we focus our attention on BREEDING the highest quality showpigs possible. I stress the word breeding there. By that I mean sound, functional, productive animals that can make a difference for our customers in the show ring and the breeding pen. Too many people out there are just trying to MAKE showpigs to have something to sell, and they sacrifice long term quality for short term gains. There is a big difference when you buy an animal from a breeding program, as opposed to buying from someone that is making showpigs to sell.
What websites, apps or tools can’t you live without? Why?
Google Sheets. I have the entire business on Google Sheets, which allows me to always have the information I need within seconds. It’s a tremendous organization tool that can be viewed and edited by everyone at Meeker Showpigs that I have shared it with. All information is automatically saved as it is entered, and in case, I ever need to look back there is a full history of every revision ever made. It is a priceless tool that is 100 percent free.
