Located in the Southeast corner of Minnesota, Beyer Livestock is an eight sow Hampshire operation, owned and operated by Brady Beyer, that focuses on raising elite breeding stock to strengthen the Hampshire breed and impact the genetic lines of other breeders.

Hampshire pigs have always been a big part of Brady’s life. He grew up in a family operation, Beyer Bros, that primarily focused on producing Hampshire and Chester whites in the 80’s and 90’s. Though his family focused on the production side of things, he was “bit by the show bug” in his younger years and began exhibiting pigs through 4-H and FFA.

“Fast track to 2020, and with the passion for pigs still alive, I was able to find a small acreage to begin raising hogs. I always enjoyed the Hampshire breed and knew I wanted to try my hand at making better stock for the breed,” says Beyer.

His venture into raising his own pigs would not have been made possible without the support of his parents. They were the ones who equipped Brady with the opportunity to start raising pigs and the helped finance his beginning pig projects.

“Dad’s passion for hogs, breeding stock was contagious to me. I learned how to study, read, and interpret livestock from him while my mother was a county extension agent and introduced 4-H as the avenue to create the reason for swine projects and shows,” says Beyer.

The Beyer Livestock operation really took off two years ago after Brady purchased their first Hampshire gilt off The Hill in Missouri and later that year completed their sow line up with a Baade bred sow. With these new genetics in play, Beyer focuses on layering in some older boar genetics that still uphold the breed’s best attributes to help raise unique and dynamic breeding stock. Breeding for boars and gilts is the primary focus for Brady, but he’s also excited about the prospect of raising a few select barrows for young exhibitors. Beyer Livestock has already had success settling a few gilts to No Boundaries and Top Gun has done well on some of their daughters that date back to Point Taken, Game Day and Range Wars genetics.

“Our goal is to contribute to recreating some of the excitement in the Hampshire breed that I remember feeling back when I was showing. We are striving to incorporate those same older genetics into our current sows today with frozen semen back on great females we started with and produce. We hope to establish a consistent sow herd of females that are productive yet trendy, and continue to build on that sow power, mix in old genetics and create breeding stock that have the pieces to generate and raise elite pigs,” says Beyer.

The growing numbers of Beyers Livestock have put them in a position to host their first online sale this spring. However, with the perks of added marketing and awareness, Brady opted to consign in The Debut to showcase their genetics and get pigs into great families across multiple states.

“The online presence that Showpig.com provides, seems to be the simplest and best way to reach the largest scope of people,” claims Beyer.

The Debut is a premier consignment auction platform that showcases new consignors, breeders or operations looking for a facelift or re-introduction to the market. The first Debut is February 28.
