Oklahoma State University (OSU) Livestock Judging Coach Dr. Blake Bloomberg learned just how much complete and total attention to detail livestock evaluation requires as he launched his judging career in 4-H and FFA.
My family has shown livestock for generations, so when it was finally my turn in the ring, I felt the need to be the best I could be. My parents and Grandpa Ronnie were my biggest supporters, but also my harshest critics. They gave me great advice that mattered not only in the show ring, but also in life.
OK; we get it, Thanksgiving is supposed to be all about the turkey, but as pork producers, I think we all know a better way. Yes, that’s right – an evening full of purely pork. The Showpig.com crew wondered what a Thanksgiving dinner would look like without turkey, so we headed over to porkbeinspired.com. The National Pork Board’s recipes got us excited about skipping the turkey, and we’re sharing our favorites with you!
Showpig enthusiasts are currently descending on Duncan, Oklahoma. For one week, Duncan transforms into the showpig prospect Mecca of the Southwest. Between the sifts, the sales and the deals to be made in the parking lot, you will find lots to do at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Then, add the excitement of breeding stock shows sponsored by the National Swine Registry, Certified Pedigreed Swine and American Berkshire Association you might never want to leave. But, if you’re looking for venues beyond the barn, Showpig.com’s team has you covered.

November kicks off a whole month of giving thanks. You’ve likely seen the 30 days of thanks posts already showing up on your newsfeed. Showpig.com believes in the power of gratitude. Pull up a chair, sit down and pass the gratitude, as we share 10 things we’re thankful for.
The livestock industry’s greatest product isn’t the number of shows organized, nor the amount of banners awarded. It’s not even the elite livestock bred to compete at the highest level. Our greatest product is the youth that will go on and use the skills they learned to impact their communities in a positive way.
We’ve all heard it. With less than 2 percent of the United State’s population directly involved with production agriculture, we have to share our story with consumers about what farmers do. This is especially important since the majority of Americans are removed from the farm.
