Blood Warts

Hog Doc or any one else that may have knowledge on this. Are blood warts contagious to other hogs and is there a treatment or way to get rid of them? I have about a 70 pound cross gilt that appears to have a blood wart on top of her hip near the ham loin junction.

Re: The best in the industry (in your opinion)

Shaffer's Gold Rush seems to be very competitive. They have produced many champions at majors in various breeds. Great people to deal with there also.

Re: Transitioning baby pigs from milk to pellets

We usually start them by mixing a little feed with the milk and making a soupy mix. Once they get the taste of the feed start mixing a little drier until you have them eating just the dry pellets. We usually start creeping the pigs at about 10 days old while on the sow so the transition at weaning i...

Checking heat

If a sow/gilt urinates when a boar is put in with her is that any indication of heat? It's time for them to be in, but they are a few days off and have not stood yet. Every time I have put the boar in our Duroc gilt seems to urinate intermittently. I have noticed hogs doing this in the past but have...

Re: Calming a pig before travel

As far as loading, we keep our trailer backed up and the kids load the pigs on and off of it every day to get them used to loading. They come out of the barn and load right up. May try feeding them in the trailer first time or two you try so they associate it with something good. Never tried any of ...

Re: From sound, to unsound, back to sound?

What I have seen judges refer to as "outside its skeleton" it is usually those hogs on the front end that has that bulldog look to them where it appears that there shoulders are setting outside there body. On the back end it's the ones that tend to get extremely wide and yes sometimes bow ...
