Re: Weight gain

It’s not necessarily how much he eats, it’s what he does with it. 8 1/2 lb of daily feed is a huge amount of feed. With Heavy Weight and Paylean (by the way you need to be at 9 grams/ton to get maximum growth benefits) he should be doing at least 2.6 lb/day. You didn’t mention what he weighed. Have ...

Re: Have a question on "SHAPE"

Power is muscle. Never really heard shape in his flank before. But I believe he means a lower and fuller flank.

Re: Have a question on "SHAPE"

Shape is normally used in conjunction with muscle. That is the pig’s top and ham. But mostly the top. I’ve not heard it used to describe the flank area. You may have heard two different thoughts as the judge talked. If that were true then your pig needs both muscle shape and the flank area filled an...

Re: need to gain 1 lb or less

He will gain more than 1 lb per day on that diet. Reduce the Fitter 52 to 1 lb per day and you will be ok.

Re: Withdrawal time on 819

No. It is non medicated. Also, some feed grade medications do not have a required feed withdrawal prior to slaughter.

If a feed has a feed withdrawal it is required by law (FDA) to be plainly printed on the tag. If you don’t see one, the feed doesn’t have one.

Re: Burn Fat in Lower Body

To burn fat off the underline of a pig you will first burn fat off the head, neck, top and ribs. If you are talking about how low the belly hangs, that’s not fat. That is most feed. Feed less to pull some middle off.

Re: Water.

Algae, micro-organisms can produces chemicals that cause water to taste bad to pigs. That was in reference to cleaning the pvc waterers every couple of weeks. If the pigs are not drinking at least 1 gallon of water per every 100 lb of bodyweight, something is wrong with the water.

Re: Water.

This time of year water can grow algae etc... which off flavor the water. Are the pvc waterers in the sun? If so, move them under shade.

Re: Water.

How much do the pigs weigh?
Do they have another source of water?
Is there anything impacting the temperature, cleanliness, or flow of the water?

Re: Need help gaining weight

Few things: Check the water source. Water intake is directly related to feed intake. If something is impairing water intake (it’s dirty, or hot, or insufficient volume), feed intake will be impaired and growth will suffer. Are they eating well? (6 lb or more per day) If they are eating well, and onl...

Re: KGB

So for the first show the pig can gain 2.5 lb per day (290-260) - 12 days; for the second show it can gain 1.14 lb per (300 - 260) / 35 days. So, my suggestion is to manage weight gain to about 1 lb per day for the next 12 days by feeding: (Total daily feed; divide into 2 equal meals)/ High Octane P...

Re: kgb-two different feeding situations

So the first Barrow is getting 5 lb per day; 2.5 lb Fitter 52 and 2.5 lb Champion Drive? If you’ve fed this very long the pig should have zero fat cover. And you are wanting to add Paylean on top of that? Crisp to me means peeling a little fat while adding a tick of muscle shape. If you feed (Total ...
