DDG's in Sow Ration: Good or Bad
We started to use DDG's in our sow rations, now we seem to have had more sows coming back into heat or 6 weeks later. Have there been any problems or concerns associated between feeding the DDG's and reproduction in hogs? Last year we used a corn and swine concentrate based ration with a conception ...

Re: red delted sire
I would recommend Rusty Nuts, we used him on a similar type gilt you described and were real pleased with his pigs. Our gilt was red calico and all 8 came out red calico. We did use Red U Mental on a black (red carrier) sow, all the pigs came out black belted not red but they are a stout set of pigs...

Re: Rusty nut offspring
We have 2 pigs out of Rusty Nuts, they look real nice, good muscle shape, bone, tall fronted. The barrow we will keep for a market pig for our local show, the gilt will go for another market show. As for color, we bred him to our red calico gilt, all 8 came out red calico. I would recommend him.

Boar for keeper gilts
We have a Reggin sow that is getting up in age, we would like to get some keeper gilts for raising showpigs from her. She has real good shape, muscle, bone, great market pig look to her, drawback to her is her walking or gait. Which york boar or even a cross might work on her for keeper gilts. I was...

Re: Showing
We have been to shows where the show officials have let another person help a special needs showman with their pigs in the show ring in case a need should arise. You may need to permission from the show committee first. Good luck to this young man at his first show.

Re: Sullivans Show Pig Paste
gobigorgohome is right, try it at home first, our pig did the same thing at home he got worse, once we got to S.A. he was fine there, maybe it was a different environment or something, I have noticed pigs usually act a little better at the show than at home sometimes.

Wide Walking Boars
We just finished the San Antonio Gilt show, both of the judges in the Jr. and Open show told my daughter her gilts did not walk wide enough in the front or in the back, when they stand they are opened up wide, just not when they walk. So what boars are out there that walk wide to help us improve thi...

Re: 14% Feed?
Would you recommend feeding this to gilts for Expo or state fair breeding gilt shows? If so, what be the best feeding strategy to get the best results from 909? We enjoy feeding breeding gilts but haven't been able to quite get the look that the winners have.

Re: Sold barrow. Dead within 12 hours. What to do?
This happened to us last year and 2 weeks ago (as breeders) we replaced both pigs for the kids from our extra pigs, they were so grateful and so were the parents. Last year the pig just died, the pig that died 2 weeks ago we think may have had a reaction to some medication we had given that day. Ove...

Re: Monster Pipe
We used Monster Pipe on a Papa Grande X Alias gilt last year. Our experience was he is a market pig maker, barrows and gilts were heavy muscled, moderate framed. 6 pigs (4 barrows & 2 gilts) sold for market swine shows, the 4 barrows made the sale ( our judge was looking for moderate to larger f...

Re: When to AI? Need a couple of answers quick!
We have a Berk gilt we heat check by putting her with a boar, she runs from him for 1 to 2 minutes, you think she is not ready than all a sudden she stops, locks up hard and then I A-I her, for the 2nd dose the same thing. We have a Hamp gilt that will lock up hard at the fence line, but when I try ...
