History of Cystic sows question

My friend has been breeding for at least 15 years. Over the last three or four years she has had young and old sows and even 1 gilt that won't settle. Some of them have settled only to abort or slough off their litter in the second month. Eventually, after several breeding attempts, she's had them b...

Re: Diamond @ Shaffer?

I had two litters off him this February. Super nice on both sows. Great semen count. Shaffers still has a link to a video of him on their website. The video sold me on him for sure. The litters off him won't be going to fair till early August. I'll know more than Here's the link https://www.youtube....

Re: Boar not consistantly successful breeding

Thank You for your input. I have been thinking he might be lazy. He is tall enough but seems to be more successful with the smaller sows.

Re: Constipated sow

Epson salt works great if you can get them to eat it mixed in with their feed. I use either yams or mix their feed in prune juice. As someone already said, walking them works really well too

Boar breeding problems, Help Please

I sold one of my boars to a friend with 2 gilts and 3 sows. He is a 1 1/2 year old exotic, crossed to a registered Hampshire. He is taller framed than what we have seen the last few years and has plenty of length. He has been successful in settling a sow and a gilt both will be farrowing in August. ...

Boar not consistantly successful breeding

I sold one of my boars to a friend with 2 gilts and 3 sows. He is a year and a half old exotic, crossed to a pure Hampshire. He is taller framed than what we have seen the last few years and has plenty of length. He has been successful in settling one sow and one gilt. His attempts to breed the othe...

Re: Deworming methods

I am surprised no one has responded to your post yet. The recommended wormer is Ivomec Injectable, or the cheaper generic brand is Noromectin. You can get that at any Tractor Supply or larger feed stores. It is recommended that you switch every 30 days between Ivomec and Safeguard, either paste or f...

Re: Semen Cooler

You seriously do not need to spend a lot of money on a "semen cooler". I purchased a $90. digital wine cooler at Lowes a few years back and still use it for my semen. It will goes as high as 64 degrees which recommended temp is 62 to 64 degrees depending on the semen outfit. I had a friend...

Where to inject lutalyse

I ran into an interesting situation helping a friend prepare for farrowing her second litter. She wanted to induce to insure her sow would have the litter during the weekend when she was out of school. Her sow was at day 113 From the "LAST" day of breeding so I was not concerned with being...

Lutalyse question

<t>I have a sow that has gone through Pseudopregnancy due to Zearalenone toxins in the feed. I read in an article on mycotoxins is that the only thing to do is change the sows feed and flush her out with lutalyse. <br/> My question is how much should I give her and do I give her two doses like I wou...

<t>I have had the same thing happen twice. My problem was caused from the feed. At first, all three of my sows did not take. My fourth pig took, or so I thought. Upon reading through these blogs, I found several breeders were having the same problem and we were all feeding Purina Pork and Sow builde...
