Ideal Vaccination regimen for sows
I am curious to know if there is an ideal or recommended pre-breeding vaccination regimen for sows. It seems like there are more and more infectious disease issues in baby and weanling pigs these days so I would like to be more pro-active and hopefully develop some active and passive immunity in the...

Chester gilt needs a ride to Central Texas
Anyone from Texas going to the Crossbred Classic? I am looking for a ride back to Central Texas for a 300# Chester White gilt that the breeder will bring to the Classic. Willing to pay for someone to haul her to her new home or at least closer for me to meet you and pick her in somewhere south of th...

Re: what to do when show pig stresses?
Hog Doc- I would like to read through the earlier thread mentioned. I tried a search but could not find it. Any suggestions? key words? Thank you for the very educational responses. I would really like to learn more. Also like to know the science behind things instead of home remedies that may (or m...

what to do when show pig stresses?
A friend just called me asking for advice about how to treat a pig that is stressing. I offered a couple suggestions but then thought about posting the question here. With as many people in the industry on this forum, I feel certain that there are many suggestions about what to do when a show pig st...
Re: spot boar
I had same experience from Like No Other. stout bone, great top shape, very attractive babies and at about 4 weeks their front ends went south. a couple ended up really bad and the sow is very sound and her dam was the same. will not use him again. Wide Stride (also at LVS) litter did not get wide b...

Re: Poland Boar
Take a look at Blaze at Shaffer's Gold Rush. His picture looks good and he is better in person. Super thick and moderate type and a negative too!
I saw that gilt show in the cross class and sell at Belton. She is nice if you can manage her properly with that dreaded positive status.
Good luck!

Re: When do you put pigs in crate?
I think both responses provide great information. I would just add that it can vary slightly from sow to sow. I have had some gilts that sort of freak when crated for the first time so 4 days is sometimes long enough to help them get used to crate life - eating, drinking, up and down, etc. If your g...

Poland boar?
Depending on her stress status, you might consider Deja vu at Prairie States. He is a carrier. We had a really nice January litter out of him. stout bone, good width and muscle. nice pigs all around.
Planning to use him again soon.

you might consider Bullseye at Center Prairie and Wildfire at Hi Point.
I have seen pigs out of both boars and own a boar and gilt, respectively, and really like them.
