Re: Blood Warts

They are not contagious and there isn't anything you can do about them. I'd cull her.

Re: Breeding sows with scar tissue issues

You can breed her. PCAI probably isn't a bad idea. Depending on the severity you may want to be prepared to take them out the side but if she's high enough value that may be a risk worth taking.

Re: Matrix testing

Since it's a synthetic compound it would be possible to detect it if someone wanted to assay it. But since it's perfectly legal to use in gilts why would they?

I’m assuming you’re talking about a cracked back. We wrote a few thoughts on the subject awhile back. Hope it helps.

Re: Swollen node treatment

Surgically remove them if they aren't too big. Once the swelling gets too big surgery is not nearly as an attractive option. We've had some success increasing blood flow in the area with magna wave and therapeutic laser. In between sessions we'll use dilute thermaflex or another liniment in the area...

Re: Pig with ulcer not eating very much

I agree with Dr. Burgoon prevention is better than treatment every day. But once you are dealing with one you need effective treatment. We updated and went into a bit more detail about ulcers and how we treat them in our blog in December. Hopefully you find it useful. https://truenorthtechnologies.b...

My number is on a card that's supposed to go out with each order. I'm not quite brave enough to publish it on the web.

I'm sorry I missed your question. I hope everything turned out ok for you and her. I don't come around to the forum very often and usually only when someone happens to tell me i should. All our customers have access to my personal cell number and a text is the best way to ask me something. I'll alwa...

Re: Help with. Dex dose and amount per site retained placenta

We did have to move the blog and we're going to move it again in the near future so the best way to get to it is through our website. TrueNorthFeed.com As far as the dose of dexamethasone for this kind of specific issue I use a fairly high dose of 20 mg one or at most twice. The number of ml depends...

Re: Show pig feed suggestions

Any one of them can get the job done. The important things to think about when choosing are distribution (freshness of feed), dealer support, and how well they can help with questions and a feeding program. If it's one dealer for multiple feed brands ask them which one they are the most comfortable ...

You're a lot more patient than I am. If they don't settle after two tries they are sausage. With some really clubby ones we might wait for that first service but even then they should only get two bites at the apple.

Re: Keeping a pig well during jackpot season?!?

The first thing to think about is biosecurity. Showing off your trailer and keeping your pigs and equipment separate from others as much as possible outside the show ring is the best you can do. The best practice is to isolate those animals after a jackpot show. Making sure your pig is vaccinated ca...

Re: Baby pigs dying **Help**

You should have a post mortem exam done on the pigs you lost. Any advice you might get online is going to just be a guess that's biased by the description without any real context. For example, the guess that buckibri gave is very reasonable given the way you describe the situation.

Re: Full gut. Blown out look.

For show day fill take five cups of smore fill and a cup of sumo mix those together the night before with water and let it ferment overnight. It smells like hell but they'll eat it.
