Re: KGB, feed advice?
I was thinking about doing 2lb of powerfill, 2lb of 819, 8 oz depth charge, now ultra full (I think she needs so lower third help), and heavy weight per day (not sure on amounts for ultra full and heavy weight yet). Will the powerfill and 819 combination be okay for the next 90 days? And also, she s...

KGB, feed advice?
Hi, Currently, my pig is on Show-Rite 17.5% feed, 4 lb. per day. I am looking to switch over to Purina food and supplements. This past Sunday (March 27) she weighed 135 lb. She has an ADG of about 1.5+ lb right now. Weigh-in is probably going to be July 2, with a max weight of 280 lb, therefore only...

Biting at the whip
When I go out and train my pig, I have a few problems and wanted to see if anyone has advice to improve these... 1. She likes to bite at the whip. I don’t put any scent on it, she just always has her mouth open and closing in a chomping motion. Will that look bad to the judge? Not sure how I can get...

advice for supplements?
Hi - I attached a link at the bottom to look at photos of my pig. Any advice on what supplements I should be feeding? What would you say are her strong/weak points on how her body looks? (e.g. What would you change on her if you could, and what do you like about her?) EXTRA DETAILS: She is currently...

Re: Alternatives to shavings?
I had friends who used horse pellets. I'm not sure how expensive it is, but I believe it would probably end up being cheaper than shavings since you don't have to change them so often. They are wood pellets which you wet with water and they expand and basically turn into a powder. They are supposed ...

Re: Powerfill while trying to get fat cover?
Ok, thank you for the reply. Her base feed is not providing enough lysine for her because she would only get the 25g if I fed her about 7 lb. of it per day, which is too much feed for her weight and ADG. I’m also trying to make room in her diet for the weight gain from a fat supplement, since I want...

Powerfill while trying to get fat cover?
I just switched to feeding my pig powerfill as a complete feed for the next 13 days until weigh-in on July 1. I am trying to hold her because our max weight is 280 and she is 255. She has also been losing freshness so that’s another reason I’m using powerfill. However, I also need her to get a fat c...

more help with feed?
Hi again. I need some further advice on the gilt I posted about recently... My gilt is currently being fed (per day): -about 4 lb. (sometimes 4.5) of Linder's 685 -1 lb. of Ultra Full -0.5 lb. of Depth Charge -6 oz. of Heavy Weight Today she weighed 250 lb. Last Sunday she was 240 lb. She has theref...

Re: supplement help
Thank you both so much. I actually started weighing the feed yesterday and I realized that I actually was giving her about 9 lb. of feed per day instead of (what I thought) was 3 lb. Although such a big difference in what I thought I was giving her vs. how much I actually was, I was only measuring i...

Re: Misbehaving in the ring
Thanks for the response! I think she had a hard time transitioning to the fair w/ other pigs because before that she was all alone @ home. I only show once a year, so I think my nerves may have also got the best of me on Sunday and that nervous energy transferred to my pig and she began to misbehave...

Misbehaving in the ring
I had market swine showmanship this past Sunday, and my pig was being a complete pain. She did way better at home than she has been doing at the fair. She’s always been stubborn, even at home, but at the show on Sunday, the worst came out in her. She rode the fence the whole time and wouldn’t even b...

Re: overweight advice
UPDATE: I made weight! She was 261 lb. this morning. I cut her water off last night and gave her a bucket of water this morning. I also didn't feed her last night or this morning, only until after she was weighed. I fed as KGB recommended. Thanks for the advice! It helped to keep her fresh. Now on t...
