No Milk, HELP
3rd parity sow farrowed one day early. She was AI'd so she farrowed on day 113. She has no milk, her teats are flaccid and her udder is soft. I gave her Oxytocin 1/2 cc twice with no change. Her temp in normal. She is willing to let her pigs suckle. I gave her pigs some colostrum from the other sow ...

How are small producers selling show pigs?
Looking for ideas on setting up a sale. Not an auction. We are in our third year of larger scale production for us and last year was a nightmare. I want to sell on a certain date and am looking for ways to do this. Any ideas that have worked would be great. Thanks

Re: That smell.
I fought that for years and I have used everything suggested except the toothpaste and Axe (that will mask a weeks worth of body oder on a teenage boy but I wheeze the minute I smell it). Best thing I have ever done is to purchase boxes of cheap disposable gloves and keep them at the barn doors. Eve...

Re: York Boar on X Gilt
Did you get her bred and what did you breed her to? I also have a cross bred gilt and I am trying to figure out what to breed her to. She is extreme in her muscling and needs length.
Thanks

Increasing Weight Gain Suggestions, Ideas
We have 5 pigs that were born 3-10. Weighed 5-18 average 61 pounds. We weighed them 6-22 the average weight was 122 pounds. The days between the 2 weights taken are 37 days. We have 50 days till our fair. The minimum weight is 235 but the judge likes big pigs. 275 plus. The pigs have the frame to ca...

Breeding gilt that has had rectal prolapse?
I'm looking for opinions about keeping a gilt that was intended to breed if she has had a rectal prolapse.
Any ones opinion is appreciated.

<t>Purebred landrace x exotic boar that I own. The Landrace sows have all been great producers with no problems that this female is out of. Could very well be genetic. This is only the second gilt that has been bred out of the 6 Landrace sows. One being her mother. All the females that were butchere...

<t>I thought you might like to know since you replied to my post. We butchered 4 gilts last weekend and I pulled the reproductive tracks out of all of them. the problem gilt had quite a narrowing just before the urethra. I would say she was about 1/2 to less than the others comparing. I split the va...

Gilt bled profusely when boar tried to breed her
There is a constriction about 4 inches or so in. She urinates fine. She bled with the AI rod. I will not breed her even if I can pass a smaller rod. I will examine the vaginal and reproductive tract when she is butchered. Should be interesting.

Show pigs, how to hold without fancy feed.
<t>I have 3 heavy muscled lean pigs that have been free choice fed a local 18% show feed that a mill produces. Their weights are between 278 and 283. The average ADG for the 3 is 2.2, 2.1, 1.9. We have 5 days till weigh-in and 7 days till show. I do not want them to weigh more than 285 not that they...

Bladder prolapse during labor
<t>Not my sow and I actually did not see it. A vet was called so I am fairly sure the diagnosis was correct. A full bladder prolapse. 3rd parity sow, she had delivered 14 piglets all alive. Unattended in a free stall situation. The vet said that there was nothing that could be done and the sow was p...

Day of Geatational age and successful Lutelyse induction
I'm sure this has been answered but I can't find it. At what date of gestation can I successfully use lute to induce a sow to farrow. I do not have a herd average on her and it also is a gilt litter. I know that she only spent 24 hours with the boar. The dates have to be correct.
