berk ear has pool of blood at tip
I need some advice, I have a 9 week pig with a blood pocket near the tip of the ear, I placed a large gauge needle into the blood pocket to drain it. I squeezed most of the blood that had pooled in that area. This morning it refilled back up. Should I lance the pocket or just let it reabsorb over ti...

219 & 319 starter feeds
Kevin, This is my first time using 219 & 319. I have used kalembach starter feeds for over 5 years and I decided to do a trail run with two summer litters. What is the recommendation or best practice when feeding 219 & 319. I have some questions. Both litters will be weaned from sows at 4 we...

Re: Draminski readings- not sure what to think
I have used the draminski tool along with a teaser boar. On a few of our older sows, I have tracked over a 30 day period prior to breeding, see the numbers run above 380, then start to drop around day 19, 20 and 21 where it will slowly come down to under 300. At day 19, the average number is 280, da...

gilt not showing any signs of estrous
I am seeking some advice. I have a january berk gilt that came off matrix on sunday, day 14. Today is day 22 and there has been no swelling, discharge, or standing. She was with 3 other gilts that came off matrix at same time and they are getting bred. Only sign I saw from her was trying to rub the ...

Re: Talk tonight
Kevin,
When using paylean, what recommendation do you have to prevent the splitting of the outer walls of the hooves. I know that this seems to be an issue with paylean usage.

Kevin,
Will champion drive give similar muscle expression as paylean? or is it designed for just the topline?

AI question
I have two York gilts in standing heat. May have bred the one too early. I am using two different York boars. I have one extra bottle of semen from the other boar. I want to just give it to the gilt that was bred using a differnt boar but these are purebreds. Is it allowable to register a litter. I ...

A.I question
I have two gilts scheduled for two weekend shows scheduled one week apart from each other. I was thinking about breeding between the shows, since the gilts are on matrix. Should I be concerned that the stress of moving from one show weekend to another show the next weekend could cause the gilts not ...

Re: stiffness in front legs
I am thinking about the feed additive as my choice of treatment. There is another littermate gilt in the same pen, and she is not stiff, they have direct access to go outside to a much larger covered lot, (unfortunately ) it is also concrete. I may have to put a fenced lot next spring attached to my...

stiffness in front legs
I have a gilt weighing around 350lbs. I am getting her ready for an upcoming show. I noticed lately she is stiff in her front legs when walking. Haven't had any problems before with her, or during the summer show season. The only difference is she is not getting walked as much as she did during the ...

Re: Strategies for Hard Keepers
I will share a strategy that HogDoc had shared with me a while back, We have been in this situation with a feeder getting sick early and then never fully bouncing back, particularly if you are racing against the number of days until weigh-in. One week behind in poor eating, can set you back in the f...

<t>Since starting this earlier in the week, I do see the physical change in the spring of ribth from the expansion. I also notice that the non-stop eating leads to one massive energy load that causes them all to take one long nap. I am certainly going to have to be care about how much is given on sh...
