Re: Matrix or PG 600?

Is there any chance you've got access to a teaser boar? A couple years ago, we had a runt among runts that we kept intact and made him a pet. He's three years old and might be pushing 200#...too big to wiggle under, but not big enough to bust through a pen. When we think they're ready, we just take ...

Re: 5 days post partum, sudden change in breathing

Timestamp: 0300 Went to check on everyone. Asleep, Breathing: regulated, tail is calm. All indications are that she's getting hot with the heat lamp. Follow on issue: Lows are in the high 50's; High's are around 80F. Last year, this sow lost half her first litter around the same time of year because...

5 days post partum, sudden change in breathing

Good Evening. I have a 2nd parity sow who threw 11 babies and two afterbirths on Friday afternoon. Went to feed this evening and she's breathing like she's in labor and twitching her tail constantly. No fever, no foul odor, no dilation, plenty of manure. She's producing milk, eating and drinking fin...

Re: No one carries a pre-starter

Very good. This is the third year since we've been farrowing our own pigs for 4-H. In the past, partly because of ignorance and partly because of poor access, we have weaned onto the 18% because it's all we could find. I continue to study and educate myself, so I now know better, but still can't fin...

No one carries a pre-starter

(This message was originally posted on Swine Health inadvertently. I apologize for the re-posting, but need the right information from the right people) I'm in East Tennessee which might as well be mars when it comes to swine feed/supplies. I've got a litter of 9 duroc crosses that are seven days ol...

Re: How much feed--litter of 4

Such a small litter and then spikes a fever? Are you sure she cleaned well? I've pulled mummies as late as three days post-farrow.

absorbed embryos

I bought a couple of bred gilts from one of the more well-established operations on this site. I hauled them ~500 miles back to my home on day 62 of pregnancy. One of them is due to farrow this week, but her underline is as tight as a barrow. I called the breeder and he said that she likely absorbed...

How long in the crate

We have always used small pens for farrowing our york and blue butt gilts/sows. Pig mortality has been less than 2% over the four years we've been farrowing. This year my son kept a duroc gilt from his 4-H project and I know they have a reputation for being less attentive when settling down, preferr...
