Give omeprazole about an hour before feeding. Same with pepto. Make sure you provide clean clear cool water..
Feed yogurt. Once he is eating some yogurt, start with oat groats. Can mix with some ground feed and wet his feed if he likes that. Use a little banana or whatever to topdress to entice him

Heater for Trailer Suggestion
Anyone run any electric heaters in their trailer going down the road?
We will be hauling some this winter to actual shows and am looking into options to try and make the trailer more comfortable by maintaining a decent temp during the travels.

Yes getting black pigs darker makes a difference. Especially with all black pigs.

Tanning Light
Have a ton of black pigs this year and the boss is insisting we need a tanning light this year.
Question for those that have the experience, would a grow light work?
What is everyone's recommendation for a tanning light?

FS 12’ Aluminum Featherlite
Tandem axle with new 10-ply tires within last year. Center swing gate. Curbside escape door. Slider inside rear gate. In very good shape. 1 ding on brace between frame and fender. Didn’t bend the fender, just tweaked the little triangular brace piece. Right now trailer is in Ohio. Could possibly be ...

Nipple Waterer Suggestions
About to hook up our waterers in the barn now that I hope we are past hard freezes. Last year I added a couple new pens with nipple waterers. Seemed like no matter what I did, I could not get those nipples to stop dripping. I swapped out a number of different nipples and they all leaked. The nipples...

Re: Super Stubborn Barrows! Help!!
Ditto on the separation advice. Also I would set up an area apart from your barn where you take a barrow out from the barn and his comfort zone and pen him away for a while. Try offering feed/treats there. Leave him there for a while. Alternate out which barrow gets taken out and left away for parts...

Looking for Feed Bin/Storage Ideas
Looking for ideas to store feed, at least 3-400 pounds.
Want it to be rodent-proof and reasonably simple to feed out of, either with gravity-fed raised type bin or easy to scoop feed out of from the top.
What are you guys using?

Mixing Pigs
We usually source our pigs from one breeder.
Last 2 years we purchased some from a second breeder. The pigs are around 50-60#s when we get the second set and I'm looking for tips/tricks to mix pigs and minimize fighting, injuries and damage?
Thanks.

Re: Showmanship question
As stated, every judge has their preferences. I too was raised in a time that you flat did not touch your pig with your hand. It seems to be fairly common and accepted for a showman to occasionally tap their pig's back with a free hand or direct a pig's head with the hand to the face. We school on o...

Re: Trends in showmanship
Not a judge, but a parent and youth leader. I see some kids really working these pigs like you describe. Had a guy judging here a couple years ago that I place at the very top of the youth livestock judges. His comment, and I agree wholeheartedly, is that working these pigs as hard as some seem to, ...

Showmanship Rant
Kids finished up their fair a while back. Had a really good fair except for showmanship which is our main focus. We had a judge this year from the midwest that turned the junior showmanship final drive into a circus act. Pig panel alleys/chutes the kids had to maneuver through, around a guy in the c...

What happens if you add more of a product such as ultrafull or depth charge to help satisfy the pig's hunger.

Re: Grand barrow at Illinois kicked out
So, has anyone heard for certain what the barrow tested positive for?
I am hearing some reference to cortisone or cortisol being the reason for expulsion.
