Hi everyone!
What kind of medicator (brand/model?) would you recommend for a wean to finish show barn with 30-40 pigs (at weaning) and 12 for keepers?
Thank you!

Dextrose use vs. Electrolytes at show
Does anybody have experience using dextrose for muscle pop at a show? How is it different than using electrolytes? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Re: Swell
Following the directions on the label we have found that it does work well. It is an interesting product as it forms a gel... have not had problems with it but could see it possibly upsetting some.

Calming: Melatonin Valerian Root 5HTP?
There is a thread on here that mentions this formula from VooDoo feeder using the combination of melatonin, Valerian Root, 5HTP and even Thiamin (Vit. B) for a calming formula. Does anybody have experience with this? We have a duroc that is a little jumpy when walking - her dad was a carrier so not ...

Re: Changing protein levels throughout growth
Thanks KGB! Those calculations make sense and are very helpful. But why would a breeder constantly be changing the protein % in a line of feed? Just using the protein as the base for changing the % lysine as in energy? Does this keep them fresher looking? Affect growth?

Changing protein levels throughout growth
I am trying to figure out something. There are breeders (successful breeders) that feed with a technique of what amounts to changing to protein level of the feed almost every 1-2 weeks. They feed Moormans. Usually all high fat. I *think* the reason is as the pig changes on the higher protein (more m...

Percent protein for gestation/lactation
Hi everyone - what % protein are you all using for gestation? Do you increase your protein after farrowing for lactation? Just trying to get an idea of the average.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sow Nutritional Requirements
Hi everyone, Not sure who would have the most information about this, but just trying to learn more. Can someone explain the nutritional needs of a breeding herd? I know most sow feeds are of lower protein (we feed 14.1% with 3.5% fat and .75% lysine). Our herd just seems like they are SO HUNGRY! We...

We always use a water filter. Just an RV water filter ($30) and rarely have any problems.

Re: gilts swelling
MarkFrankPigs, you have a confirmed bred gilt that stood for a boar initially? We have a gilt that stood for a boar (fence line contact) today that I would have sworn we caught and had bred. This is day 19 since breeding - you are giving me hope! Anyone else out there?

Farrowsure Gold Timing..Dr. Amy? Hogdoc?
Hi, I have a few new gilts that I acquired. They are due to be bred; 2 within the next week and one in the next 2 weeks. I haven't given pre farrow shots as I just got them. Farrowsure Gold is shipped and will be here tomorrow. Do I give them a shot pre-breeding even though it is not in the recommen...
