Which feed this year?
Looking for advice choosing a feed for this year. Have local access to Purina, Sunglo, and Umbarger. Have fed Purina in the past when the feed was pelleted. At that time I didn't know anything about supplements, so didn't feed any, which held back the pigs, but didn't have much success on the feed. ...

Re: Separation Anxiety
This issue happened to me this past summer. If the pig is really worked up to the point that you cant train her, you may need to walk them together if that is an option. Two people each walking each pig often works great. The training as not progressed at all with her if she cannot get over the sepa...

Re: Pig won't eat all her food, HELP!
I milk cows from 4-7pm most nights. I will normally get up early and feed before it heats up for the day. I will feed after I get home from milking. My pigs have never not ate all their food, so I not exactly sure what the reason is. My heaviest pig is around your size as well. You could try marshma...

Re: Misbehaving in the ring
A little late of a response, but I hope this helps later in showing. The pig is probably terrified. Personally, I don't use the whip hard with my pigs unless they are doing something wrong. Eventually, they learn not to do whatever it was. There was also a few times I used the whip when we still had...

Re: From sound, to unsound, back to sound?
My pigs' back legs are starting to bow inward. Is there anything I can do? Heaviest is around 120. Anything is appreciated.

Re: 70 lbs in 30 days possible?
I would say it is possible. A pig will normally gain 2 pounds a day. If she is gaining those two pounds, and on paylean, I would say it is very possible to make weight, and probably your desired weight. The one concern comes on the day the pig is going to the show, as it can lose up to 10 pounds in ...

Re: From sound, to unsound, back to sound?
I wish I would have known more last year then. This must have happened to my pigs. Thanks for your help on the forum lately.

Re: From sound, to unsound, back to sound?
Thank you. I think I stressed a little too much over the issue. I am not a new showman, but not an expert either. How can you tell when a pig is growing out of its skeleton?

From sound, to unsound, back to sound?
I have a blue butt gilt that I picked out on April 22. When I picked her, she was perfectly sound and visibly had some of the best genetics in the barn. Walking her this evening, she seemed to bring her legs inward, obviously indicating unsoundness. I know that pigs have many changes to their struct...

Where does each supplement work its magic
I went to a clinic last summer at a feed store that sold Purina. They gave out a flyer that said exactly what each supplement was used for and what part of the hog it affected. Sadly, I ended up tossing that flyer out, but now it would be very helpful to have that again. If anyone knows what each do...

Re: show whips
We have them and love 'em. The bright color also helps too! Some pigs will stop when you're hitting them with a traditional whip, but these ones are nice because it just gives them a little annoying tickle. I have been looking at these. Have a traditional whip right now and find that my pigs do sto...

Re: Best breed for temperment & training
If comes down to the blood line, the litter, and the pig itself. Litters will be different, but so will each pig. This past season I had two hamp/york crosses. The barrow was the best pig I have ever had. The gilt had an attitude that thankfully quite at fair, but the day before she knocked me down....
