Ivomec Ivermectin Injectable

I've been to several Tractor Supply stores looking for the Ivomec Ivermectin injection dewormer. They didn't have any so I started looking online. I can't find it online either. Does anyone know what's going on with it? I'm wondering if it's being discontinued, or if the manufacturer is on an extrem...

Re: respiratory congestion

If you've gotten a response with Nuflor, I'm assuming you can keep it up. You'll want to ask your vet how much time to allow between follow-up doses. With Excede, after I have given the initial 2 doses 48 hours apart, I can give a dose every 4 days. My vet has recently told me I can extend that to e...

Re: respiratory congestion

We'll use Excede. (I've also used Nuflor or Draxxin in the past as Pac as indicated.) We administer banamine as well.

Re: Boar not eating

Hi there - can you provide more information on your boar? Is he acting lethargic at all? How is his poop? When is the last time he was dewormed? How old is he? Is there an in-heat female near-by? When I've had suspected ulcer cases, the pig would throw-up and not eat much, and act lethargic (still k...

Re: 2 Lame pigs and one with a cough

The symptoms sound similar to mycoplasma arthritis. If it is that, lincomycin is the medicine of choice. However, since they haven't responded to that, you might ask your vet for another antibiotic to try. One time, I had young pigs that exhibited lameness as you describe. My vet had given me Excede...

Re: Guilt overdue

We raise Berkshires too, and most of my gilts actually farrow late. I don't think it's uncommon for gilts to go late. Last year, I had a few who farrowed 5-7 days late. They delivered healthy babies just fine. Nerve-racking for me as I like to be there with them, but the pigs are on their own time. ...

Re: Mycoplasma Arthritis Questions

That's a good question. A few comments: 1) To my knowledge, there isn't a vaccine for mycoplasma arthritis. However, I just did a quick Google search, and I found this one: https://www.bi-vetmedica.com/species/swine/products/ingelvac-mycomax. It seems new. I'm wondering if it's only available to com...

Re: Mycoplasma Arthritis Questions

I had the same initial issues with mycoplasma on my farm. Unfortunately, we had bought breeders and some feeder pigs from a registered breeder who did not vaccinate their herd. At the time, I was a newbie to swine vaccinations and diseases. That situation gave me a crash course in mycoplasma. At the...

Re: PCV M G2 timing

Folks do different ways, but here's what I found in my experience on my farm: We had mycoplasma brought in on breeders that we acquired. I vaccinated their piglets with the one dose at 3 weeks. However, some of the piglets from the litter showed symptoms of mycoplasma, and I had to treat with antibi...

We worm ours at about 5 weeks and use ivermectin.

I'll also worm mom about 2 weeks before farrowing.

Re: Pork taste Fishy tasting Bacon/Ham

If the rest of the meat is fine, and it's only the bacon and ham that tastes fishy, then I would think that points to the curing process. (Assuming that the customer also had the ham cured and not fresh). I've definitely seen differences in the cured products across processing facilities. I actually...

Re: Has anybody seen this?

We had one like that last year. My vet does my castrations, and she didn't want to castrate it in fear of having issues with the intestines. We let the piglet grow to about 4 weeks or so, and then took it in to give to a friend that likes suckling pig. I'd be curious to know if someone could success...

Re: My pig can't walk, we have tried everything

ugh, the poor thing. Is that him breathing that I hear? That's pretty labored. That first antibiotic you used (Baytril) is good stuff. Also, I don't think there's a specific test for the mycoplasma arthritis. It's a diagnosis based on symptoms. If that's his breathing, it sounds like he has somethin...

Re: Sow over due

I don't think it's uncommon for pigs to be late. I've had several times when a sow delivered a few days overdue. It's nerve-racking with the anticipation. I've never induced so I don't have any tips for that specifically. Sometimes getting the sow up and to walk around will help. As long as the sow ...
