Looking for Feed Mix Suggestions
I’m going to have my local feed mill mix my feed to save money over the premixed bags. Was wanting advice on what to put in the base without top dress. Really just looking for decent growth without putting too much fat on them. I’ll start to top dress as I get closer to show time this summer.
Re: Feeding??
"I think my biggest weakness is the ability to look at a show pig and say it needs this or that, if that makes any sense." Do not be afraid to ask for advice. I see a lot of people post pictures on here, and you will get a lot of feedback. Also, the showpig industry is full of people who a...

Managing Size of Piglets
I was curious what tips people had to manage the size of baby pigs. We just lost an entire litter on a first time gilt because the pigs were too big and she could not push them through the birth canal. I induced her two days before she hit her due date, but she still couldn't push them out. We were ...

Re: Ground Feed Suggestions
So by recipe I guess I’m talking about ground feed mix. Last year my 1000# mix consisted of: 500# Ground Corn 400# Soybean Meal 30# Sow Mix 30# Showpig Base 40# Soy Oil I live in Central Missouri and order my feed from a local Purina Dealer that I really like. I add Champion Drive to that mixture ju...

Ground Feed Suggestions
KGB, I have a mid-January Litter that I am getting ready to transition off of 319. I typically use Champion Drive for the only supplement until I get closer to show time (July-August). Do you have any suggestions for a feed recipe? I felt like last year my pig put on too much cover and lost some of ...

Re: Diarrhea and Cough
Just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone else is having the same problems. The Baytril worked great and cleared them all up on both issues.

Diarrhea and Cough
My 50# Showpigs are looking good, but they are all developing a cough and now I am seeing signs of diarrhea. I gave them all a shot of LA200 this past weekend, and I am getting some Baytril from my veterinarian to give them today. Any other recommendations? It has been a long road already for us thi...

Would you do this in place of the Champion Drive and Depth Charge or in addition too?

Shaping Young Boars
I have two Duroc boars born on Jan 18th. Right now, I am feeding a combination of Champion Drive, Oats, and Depth Charge along with a ground feed. I'm wanting to add a lot more shape and power to these boars. Any suggestions? It's too early for Paylean I know but any other ideas?

Re: Scabs on Chesters pigs back help
Are you sure it is not a sunburn? It has been my experience that most of the scabbing on the center of the back are caused by sunburns. I think pictures would help a lot. Most of the time we use Aloe on the burns along with keeping it clean and out of the sun.

World Pork Expo Cancellation
I read a lot of the information on this website to gain different perspectives of raising showpigs. However, I've never posted anything to date, but wanted to get thoughts on this. This looks political to me and the timing of the cancellation is convenient as there are national discussions about the...
