Re: Managing Size of Piglets
One thing to consider is how much you are feeding the pregnant gilt. We only feed 4lbs a day unless it is cold then feed 5lbs. If the gilt is fed to much the babies will grow to big.

Ultrasound
Hello,
I was wondering what brand of phone capable ultrasound people were using and what they like about it. Or if there is one that you have used that you would recommend not getting.
Thanks

Astro Turf
I was wondering if anyone has used astro turf for there pens. Our pigs are housed outside as we have not built our barn. Would like to put something down to stop the mud during winter and though astro turn would work, just not sure how it will last with pigs.

Matrix during a Show
We would like to breed our gilt about a week after the state fair. Would starting matrix before the fair keep her for going into heat while at the fair. If there are any other tips to keep her from going into heat from the stress that would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Vaccine protocol
On our farm we use the 4 Star Vaccination Program, an easy Google search. Our local vet feels that is one of the best around, and it seems to be popular in this group as well.

Opening ribs
We were told by a judge that we need to open the ribs on a guilt we have. We are currently feeding 519 and wondering what supplements to add.

Heat mats
I'm was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were about using heat mats under the piglets. Is it a good idea to use them or are they fine with adequate heat and no drafts.
