Re: Texas summer jackpot shows
The Belt Buckle Bonanza in Waco on July 4th weekend. We have been before and really enjoyed it. We plan to go back this year.

I'm looking from some sales to attend as well. If you hear of any, mainly west TX and eastern New Mexico, please let me know.

2014 Rookie of the Year
Out of curiosity, what would be your vote for this year's rookie of the year. The boar can be any breed but his first pigs started hitting the show ring within the last year.

Re: Berk Cross Boar
MTBKMOM, you hit it on the head. There is way too much money involved to have a litter where only half are sellable pigs due to markings. It would be different if you could sell the others as crosses. Instead I have pens full of feeder pigs. Mary-Okie, I agree with the loop holes that you mentioned....

Re: Berk Cross Boar
Bcbully, that is great information and explains a lot. I had a cross boar get out and breed a berk sow. She threw out 16 crossed up pigs. I thought it was just her but I will now assume my whole herd has recessive color genes. Thanks for your help.

Re: Berk Cross Boar
Hogdoc, you make a good point that I have not considered. I was trying to make the sow first. Does the color pattern primarily come from the boar?

Berk Cross Boar
I've been raising Berkshires for several years now in Texas. I have learned a lot but I'm light years from being an expert. To this point all my litters have been registered Berkshires. This paper does me no good in Texas. When my pure bred breks, with too much white, crosses out they must show in a...
Re: Berk boar
Ndajdl, I lined up superfly on a superman and the color was perfect, but I put superfly on a cadalaic and had the same problem. I wish I could figure it out because having half a litter that can't sell is hurting the bottom line.

Moormans vs. Linders Starter Feeds
I'm looking for anyone that has experience with both Moormans and Linders starter feeds. I am currently on my last bag of Linders 600 with a group of pigs approaching 15lbs. I was going to switch to 606 but a buddy of mine recommended I try Moormans Burst instead. I have no experience with Moormans ...
Re: Berk boar
I had a gilt with a similar problem and put her on Superfly. Her litter is 2 weeks old and they are looking really good. I have another sow with superman on the bottom side that I bred to superfly and there are 2 great ones in that litter. He is a generator that stamps lots of bone and muscle. It's ...
