Re: Brushes, Skin products, and DIYs

For us, we keep it real simple. We make sure to wash regularly with a high moisturizing shampoo, as well as something like the the Weaver Brightening Shampoo, and make sure that animals are always out of the sunlight. Then we mist on a light coat of Weaver's Swine conditioning spray (the pink stuff,...

Re: Matrix or PG 600?

Based off your info PG600 won't work in this scenario. I've had luck with Matrix giving stronger signs after use. I would recommend that route of you're set on getting her bred. There are quite a few boar studs (southern gold specifically) that have great deals on great boars. With that in miind I w...

Re: Overrun Semen

That is a bummer. You might also look to see if there is a trend with the suppliers. Just my 2 cents, and I know very little about collecting, but concentrations and methods, I would think, vary from place to place. I also recommend looking into deep uterine AI on some of your problem sows. It has a...

Re: Overrun Semen

We've had no issue with overrun. It's the same semen and you're purchasing it at a later time of day. We have been using Premium Blend and they are top notch for quality stock and awesome customer service. if you;re having trouble stick sows on grander scale, other than 1 here and there, I would rev...

Re: Chronic Cough and heavy breathing

Worming is a good suggestion to try first. We have had really good success with Nuflor as an antibiotic. Even better and quicker results than Draxxin.

Re: Pig Pen Fencing/Setup

It's absolutely valid. I would say 25% of our pigs climb the fencing. If you can, and it sounds like you are concerned about it, I would avoid the paneling.

Re: Trailering school barn pigs home for weekends and breaks?

As your pigs get used to it the weight loss will subside. I think it's a yes. The more you expose your pigs to unknown places the more comfortable they will be in the show ring and loading and unloading from the trailer.

Re: Fly Bites on My Show Pig

You more than likely have mites. Not uncommon. You need to use a dewormer like dectomax or ivermectin that targets external parasites. My preference is dectomax. Should clear up shortly after (within a week or so).

Re: Length of tail - does it matter?

you could...sooner than later would be best. Keep in mind that the ligament that curls the tail need to be cleanly cut or you can mess up the tail all together. Make sure that you use something very sharp and very sterile and then use blue koat or something similar.

Re: 2 month old gilt vomitting

A lot of times that vomiting is actually hacking or coughing...If you've noticed a change in behavior you should see a vet or administer meds.

Re: Length of tail - does it matter?

I would say it shouldn't matter, but probably plays a role in placings when they are close. If you happen to have a very competitive pig I would think you're OK, but it may give the impression your project did not come from a "reputable" breeder...whatever that might mean.

It does. I cant remember if it's an 8 or 15 day withdrawal. Plus it's off label for swine.
