Aside from helping the stomach what are other benefits of feeding oats?

Re: Magnesium citrate?

Try Melatonin. We have used it with good success in pigs, goats and cattle. It's all natural, marketed for humans, and you can buy it at Walmart. Dose according to weight and you can double up the day of the show. Try experimenting at home prior to show -- don't want them falling asleep in the ring ;)

Champion Drive vs Paylean

My daughter's barrow started out very heavy muscled. We have had to push him by feeding Heavy Weight for 2-3 months now. Our show is in 21 days, he still needs all the weight he can gain and I am worried he may get a little too soft at the end. We also started him on Lubrisyn about 2 wks ago. I am w...

Re: PIG OFF FEED

I have one that will skip a meal every few days or so. Never had this before. I am in Texas and the weather has fluctuated from freezing to 80 degrees today. I think that plays a big part. Haven't had one go for 2-3 days. The amount of feed is also not very much for a pig her size. Is she gaining? U...

Re: Using depth charge while pushing

What is the shortest time period to feed depth charge in order to get the desired look for the show? I've heard some people feed it almost the whole way thru and some just at the show. What do you recommend especially since I am having to push this one?

Thanks!

Using Depth Charge while pushing

I have a barrow that I need to gain 2 lbs / day for next 32 days. He has been doing this already on 16% feed and heavy weight. I would like to add depth charge now to give him more rib shape but don't want to reduce his gain. What is the best plan to accomplish this? Also, I am giving him 8 oz of he...

Re: Sure Champ

We have fed it for years to our show steers and heifers. Keeps them on feed, increases their appetite and with helps to grow a healthy hair coat. Feeding it this year to pigs - have had issues with congestion and on and off again with eating - so hard to judge the effectiveness. Barrows seem to stil...

Re: Help with feed

I have a light barrow that we were worried about weight. We added Heavy Weight about 6 wks. ago and he has been gaining between 2 and 2.6 lbs/day. I am sold on that stuff for putting the weight on. We switched off the 20% to 18 pretty quick and are now on 16%. We got him at the end of October and he...

Barrow congested, sluggish with decreased appetite - treated with Draxxin

I have a barrow that has been congested for several weeks. Two weeks ago my vet gave him Draxxin, Dex. , and B12. His congestion improved as did his appetite and energy level. His congestion never completely cleared up. This past Sunday I noticed his congestion had gotten worse, his appetite has aga...

Hogdoc or Dr. Amy - Barrow off feed during cold weather

Our lighter barrow, which we are having to push is acting sick this morning. We are in South Central, Tx, and had a cold snap - down in mid to low 30s last night and Saturday night after warm and humid conditions. This morning he did not want to come out of the shed to eat. He finally did, and went ...

Re: Surechamp feedback

I'm a big believer especially with show cattle. Never had a problem with a calf going off feed even during the hot Texas summer. Hair is great and they have an overall healthy appearance. Feeding this year for first time to pigs. I have a young barrow that I am needing to push. Feeding him Sure cham...
