Re: How and when to make changes?

Ok, so I have misunderstood the how to feed show pig sheet, as I was under the assumption they were on the limited timing to eat the meal as training so it would be easier in the future to add additives. They are both extremely aggressive eaters at this time. On the pig mentioned, I would love to do...

Re: How and when to make changes?

No I am not trying to slow her down but other pen mate yes. I am hand feeding as I am forced with the pen mate and I don't have the infrastructure to split them. Although I did not realize the hand feeding was a weight control only tool, I was understanding this as a way to feed them what you want w...

How and when to make changes?

I use the Purina show products and supplements. I have all the material sent out and I am trying to follow using the 14 day feed interval methods. Here is where I am with a gilt. 125# current weight. Hand Fed 2x daily - She consumes a touch over 2# each feeding and each feeding consists of 1.8# 709 ...

New Purina Feeding charts following new feed rules?

KGB, I was wondering if you have updated feed charts with the new feed regulations in place. From 40# when most fair goers pick up our pigs to market weights do you have an updated chart with feed choices and possible additives or medications (to et from vet) to introduce at certain times? (Such as ...

Re: Paylean withdrawl Question

No, 1 scoop 2x daily for a 9 total daily intake.

I found a response from KGB back a few years that summed up what I was looking for and more, I found it through a Google search.

I will feed and remove 3 days before show 2 days before transport.

Re: Paylean withdrawl Question

So what happens if I cut the dose of paylean or drop it all together? Will I keep what they have gained or will they shed the muscle? We had an average of 1.8 going into the paylean and I did not expect this kind or growth spurt. We will see come Sunday night if this is maintained or if it was just ...

Paylean withdrawl Question

We have used paylean the past few years the last few weeks leading to show. Generally our pigs needed it to show expression and burn some fat and we feed right to show. This year a couple needed some help and I started 14 days before show, we are now 10 days to show and I am second guessing that I m...

Re: Electrolyte

As expected weight and physical appearance had no change.
But they drink it and hopefully we will have better pigs by using it come show day.

Re: Electrolyte

I do understand the stressed aspect you bring up, and it is a reason I figured no harm to use it. To evaluate my expectations and to also make sure the pigs intake is sufficient I am running this test. I was hoping to see a little muscle pop or small weight gain just do to the fact that this is to h...

Electrolyte

I read through the electrolyte threads form the past here on SP and I decided to try the Blue 2 as it seemed the choice of a few. Why I wanted to incorporate it this year is 2 fold, 1. Stress of the show and 6 days penned at the fair, they go to slaughter but our family really cares about well being...

Supplements and mixing

4th year in hogs but the first in trying to use supplements instead of just regular honor chow feeds. When using a supplement such as fitter 35. If you feed 1# a day of fitter, if you use it in replacement of the normal feed you would see the effects of muscle build and fat burn. Now if you add it i...

Pigs Gait

Curious question I have regarding a pigs gait, We have always seemed to have pigs that have in inward gait to there back legs and even to the front to a smaller degree. The judges the past few years have never said anything about it and I feel we have done well with our pigs. Structure when they sta...

Re: Fatter Center of Body

I am only into it 4 years so take it for what its worth. But sometimes pigs genetically just do not have a wide midsection and there is not much you can do. But in you situation with weight a concern the body fill products like Depth charge is your friend. It swells what the pig genetically gives yo...
