Re: Length of tail - does it matter?
I would say it shouldn't matter, but probably plays a role in placings when they are close. If you happen to have a very competitive pig I would think you're OK, but it may give the impression your project did not come from a "reputable" breeder...whatever that might mean. This is our 4th...

Length of tail - does it matter?
I bought two show pigs from a breeder. One has the normal length docked tail and the other one is twice as long. The longer one really bothers me! Does it matter in the show ring?

2 month old gilt vomitting
We picked up two new gilts last weekend. Yesterday I noticed one vommiting. She was acting fine at that time, but later I noticed she was a little sluggish and laying around a lot. I did not take her temperature. I gave her some pepto and later some oats, which she nibbled at. She did not have diarr...

Re: paylean and fitter 52
It depends on what your pig looks like. Fitter 52 is going to burn fat fairly quickly and build some muscle. I used Fitter 52 on one this year that was getting tight early, so I decreased protein and then she got a little flabby. I knew she wouldn't handle paylean, so I used Fitter 52. You have to k...

Re: Looking for 909
She will barely eat any 809. She inhaled 909 but I can't get any. I'm in south central Texas between Houston and San Antonio.

Re: Looking for 909
Was there a problem getting 909 to certain retailers in south central Texas? I've waited over 2 wks, my retailer said it was ordered but not sent on the truck 2 wks in a row. I had to switch back to 909, had one gilt go off feed and now barely eating. Our show is this weekend and she is drawn and fl...

How many pounds of feed are each eating per day? Are they on a self feeder or are you hand feeding? How much are they gaining per day? You need to weigh weekly or every other week, same time of day, and calculate how much they are gaining per day. We need more info to give you the best advice.

Looking for 909
My feed store can't get 909 until later part of next week - I will be out before then. Anyone in south central Texas, San Antonio or Katy area have it in stock?

Question about 909 and Fitter 52
My daughter has two gilts- our show is in 22 days. One we need to push, would like to get as close to 50 lbs on her as we can. She is getting 6 lbs 909 and 16oz heavy weight and a scoop of paylean 900 per day, divided into two feedings. The 2nd gilt is good on weight, but she was getting a little ti...

Adding sure champ to self feeder
Just got a new set of show pigs and we usually put them on a self feeder for the first month. Does anyone know the ratio for adding sure champ to a 50lb bag of feed? Is it easier to add in smaller amounts? In the past I waited to add surechamp when we start hand feeding, but wanted to start earlier ...

Re: S'more fill
I didn't compare the labels, but smorefill I know has mini marshmallows in it and I believe is just to help expand the middle. Lindners 698 or Slop iscan be fed as a complete feed. I had trouble getting our pigs to eat consistently this year and had tried almost every thing. They wouldn't eat the sm...

Re: Moorman's, Purina, or Sunglo?????
It depends what the pig looks like. The higher the protein the more muscle he will develop. Does he need more muscling, or does he need to soften up and add cover/finish? Usually at this stage we switch to 16% as they tend to gain better as they eat more and start putting on cover/finish to soften u...

Re: Weight gain HELP PLEASE
About 50-50. First couple of feedings I added more slop to get them eating and each feeding or every other, added more 16% feed as they were increasing consumption. The slop is supposed to to help with rib shape as well.

Re: Weight gain HELP PLEASE
Had gain issues this year with both of my daughter's gilts. Was feeding Sunglo 16% and Vitaferm and added paylean a month prior to the show. I tried Heavy Weight, Showts, S'more fill, Vita charge boost, Dyne, cake mix, syrup, jello, B12 injection. The Vita charge boost helped a little for the 5 days...
