Showday Pop

Several years back I read on here where you could add sugar to the pigs feed at the show and then give water to make the sugar expand thus causing the muscle to pop. I believe there was even something about adding white corn syrup to the water. Has anyone tried this or know if it even would work?

Feeding Hamp Gilt

We have a February Hamp gilt that we are feeding for mid October show. She weighs 270 but we are having trouble getting her to consume six pounds of feed per day divided into 2 feedings. Have been feeding Moormans 16% 7% fat since first of June. She seems to be somewhat hard still over her top and j...

Re: Dry scaly skin

We mix about a tablespoon of hair conditioner (Suave) and about a tablespoon of aloe in a 32 ounce spray bottle with water. Spray on and brush in. Works well for us.

Which Boar

I have a Walks Alone x Untouchable sow that I am looking to breed in a couple of weeks. She is pretty complete. Could maybe use a little more base width. I have had two litters out of her from a pure Hamp boar that we have and pigs have done pretty well. I would like to put a good cross boar on her ...

Feed advice for young pigs

We have a couple of pigs that were born the 29th of August. We are going to feed for our state show the 22nd of February. They weigh between 45 and 50 pounds now. Currently have them of the Sunglo Transition G feed which I believe is a 19.5% protein. Should I put them on a self feeder at this point ...

Youth Project Sponsorship

We have a couple of new kids in our FFA that would like to show pigs, however they are not financially able to do it. I know that there are folks out there that have sponsored projects for youth. My question is how do you go about finding people that are willing to do this or is there other options?...

Fuller Appearance on Show Day

I have a Berk gilt that weighs 320 pounds. Very deep bodied but never looks full. I have supplemented depth charge and ultra full for the last two months and she still doesn't have that full look. Is there anything that you can feed in the final few days leading up to show that will give that fuller...

Re: what 2 do

We usually see a cloudy discharge at the onset of heat and it usually changes to clear at standing heat.
We too have always noticed the swelling seems to go down some prior to standing. Good Luck!

Help deciding which Boar to Use

I have a sow that just farrowed her first litter. She is a Walks Alone x Untouchable. She is pretty complete, good frame size would probably like to make her a little taller shouldered. What boar would work to give us some good showpigs or what lines have worked well with this cross? Looking to bree...
