Re: KGB - holding ration verification
One other question...should this switch be done cold turkey, or should it gradually be added in to the grower they're on, top dressed, etc. Just wondering if they'll get sick from the sudden switch or anything.

KGB - holding ration verification
I have 2 barrows that need to be rationed. (growing way too fast!) 43 days to fair, max weight of 295. Currently they are both on approximately 7-8 lbs of 16% protein grower per day. Barrow #1 - weighed today at 265#, so he can gain a max of 0.69 lbs/day. Would like to finish him closer to 275-280. ...

Re: Colorful Boars
You could try Taco Bill at Shipley's Swine Genetics. He's a belted red, and from what I've seen, he does throw color. I'm not sure how gilt friendly he is, or if and how he would compliment your gilt, but you can give them a call and ask. The whole crew there is very helpful. Another one that is goo...

Re: Matrix or PG 600?
What did you end up using? I have a sow with the same problem. After talking it over with my vet, we decided to try the pg600. It will be delivered this week. We decided to go with the PG600. Ironically enough though, she came into heat all on her own when we ran some young weaners by her pen on th...

FluSure XP for Sows and piglets
We have three sows pregnant, two are due in February and one due in March. Each were vaccinated with FarrowSure Gold 2 weeks prior to breeding. They will be vaccinated with Rhini Shield TX4 and LitterGuard LT-C pre-farrowing. These sows were born on the property and have never left, we have not brou...

Re: current semen prices
Shaffer’s Gold Rush has some great deals on some nice boars, year round. Look for their Super Saver boars. They’re $35/dose. Shipley’s has boar specials every Monday and Thursday. Generally they’re priced around $50/dose, but currently their boar specials are $25/dose because this is their off seaso...

Re: Duroc Boars
My recommendation (for what it's worth) would be to go back to Shaffer's and use Forefront, or maybe try Grand Slam from Shipley's. Both outfits have a good selection of red boars, as does Crossroads and Chad Hill Durocs. Shipley's also has some new Durocs out of Focus that look like they're very we...

Matrix or PG 600?
We have a sow that we are needing to get bred, and this will be her 2nd litter. When we bred her as a gilt early this year, she had numerous obvious signs of being in heat, but she never locked up and stood. Based on timing, we got 3 doses in her and she settled just fine. She had a litter of 7 in J...
