Red Wattles are a heritage breed kinda rare ugly as hell they have two pieces of skin that hang off the bottom of their necks like a rooster would have hence their name, I've heard they pack the pounds on quick and the meat is a little darker and more flavorful than other breeds, just check online fo...

Re: Line breeding exotics ,what's your opinion on it?
Yeah I know they do it for consistency, I raise beagles too with line breeding in them, my only concern was when a pig has the same grandpa on all four sides is it almost to the point of in breeding instead of line breeding ( I guess the best example would be Warfare theirs so many boars out there w...

Re: Holding Barrow
Put him on 2lbs of his regular feed he still needs to get his nutrition, the rest of what he gets go to the feed store get a bag of straight oats,he's gonna look like he's wasting the oats he's not,a pig will split an oat shell eat the seed and spit the shell out, he won't gain much on oats

Re: Summer Litters
I apologize for the way worded my answer, I didn't mean you never raised a litter before was just saying you want to plan accordingly, but if you go with an online sale, some buyers won't bid if you have no delivery options ( if you do even better ) ,either way market show hogs they sell best at fee...

Line breeding exotics ,what's your opinion on it?
I,ve noticed that a lot of the top exotics available for stud have the same it not very similar gene pools, not all of them do but many do, as breeders do you worry about it much, and another question do any of you from time to time go back to a purebred boar on your crosses to throw something diffe...

Re: Summer Litters
If someone is gonna buy show hogs off you they want them 5 to 6 months old when they go to market shows they normally purchase them when their 10 to 12 weeks old (40/50lbs), so the best thing to do is research some early winter shows to plan your breeding times accordingly figure 115 days plus 5 to ...

Bottle fed full litters before but this one little guy has me stumped, mom is doing good with the whole litter, plenty of milk, the first morning after the sow had them I noticed this boar piglet was acting lame on his hind legs, brought him in the house, gave him Dumor Colostrum Supplement within 20 m...

Re: Breed for calendar?
Well the NAILE is running from Nov 3rd to 20th so figure your 3-3-3 plus 5 months to get to that prime market weight ( 250 - 275) , last year at our local shows not the Naile the judges were picking heavier hogs ( the one fair's grand went 287lbs so I don't if their starting to look for a more finis...
