Re: 94 lb Gilt - 90 Days till weight in.

You can also use products like Champion Drive now to help with top shape. Feeding paylean at the end will also help with gain and top shape (assuming your project is structurally sound). I am a huge believer in the Vita Charge Liquid Boost supplement to keep pigs on feed. I highly recommend it, espe...

Re: Fitter 35 and Paylean?

Couple of notes: Fitter 35 takes around 30 days to see the fat burning results. Paylean will increase gain. I would think the heavy weight should be removed and use the 18% only, along with paylean. I have found that if you start with the 4.5g/ton ration for the first 4-5 days before moving into the...

Re: 4 Months out

EMC has a good plan. I've always read that a pig at 6 months should be 260-280 if nutritional requirements are met. I've always had great success with the Vita Charge and Sure Champ products sparking appetite. I've been getting similar results to using fat supplements from some of the high fat 16% a...

Re: Late July fair

I assumed about 75 days to your weigh in which gives you about 1.46lbs per day gain. This will be tight. You need to get an idea of what you are gaining on your current feed program now to determine where you need to make adjustments. You should separate your pigs now if they are not already. If tha...

Re: Dry scaly skin

I love Weaver's Swine Conditioner and Shine. It's the pink colored spray bottle, not the aerosol. It works incredibly and coats evenly. I actually think I use less because it works so well. I've tried a bunch of different things before settling on this.

Re: Holding weight gain - 70 days to show

In all honesty holding is never cheap. Powerfill from Purina is the best holding ration on the market. Moorman's makes a product called Time Out that is also good. Both are expensive, but if you are serious about keeping what you have in terms of conformation the investment is worth it. 1.5lbs ADG i...

Re: adding cover

Another thing to consider is that it sounds like you have a gilt...in general gilts put fat on much later than barrows.

Also, as KGB will probably point out, fat cover from a supplement is not noticeable until 30-40 days of product use.

Silver Lining @ PBG

Good Morning!

I know he is a new boar, but is anyone using Silver Lining at PBG? Anything on the ground yet? Has anyone seen him in person?

Thanks!

Re: Holding

MJW is spot on. You want to try and do your holding in the middle after 150 pounds. Couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Powerfill can be used with regular feed as a supplement to help hold. Only in extreme cases of holding would you need to use it exclusively. 2. Powerfill is high in Lysine and hel...

Re: PICKY eater and STUBBORN to walk

Pigs like consistency. If you are constantly changing or adding different things to feed it's going to be harder to get them going on anything. If you are using paylean it takes about 7 days to start "working". Once it's going there is generally an increase in consumption and rate of gain....

Re: Showmanship question

I think there is a bit of difference in the type of shows you are at...county and state shows are generally more traditional. All of the pigs are at market weight and shouldn't need much encouragement if raised and trained correctly. I think you might see more acceptance of "on hand/brush"...

Re: walking my pig

Patience and persistence is the key to training a pig. It's not unusual to have a pig that won't want to leave the pen. It's their safe space. Keep using the board and eventually he should know that when you come in it's time to go out. You may need to remove your pig a couple times a day. Another t...

Re: Pig feed

Feeding can be complex and It sounds like you might have it a little backwards. Energy (fat usually) doesn't add muscle per say, muscle comes from protein. Energy will help with growth overall and condition (the fat covering the muscle). It's possible that you could feed a 19% ration the entire time...

Re: York to throw replacement gilts

I would check out Final Drive Genetics...they are York experts and breed them the way you describe. Check out Front & Center at Crossroads Genetics. That boar was the grand champ at the Southwest Type Conference this year. Really good looking boar and reasonably priced for the quality. Some Inst...
