Re: Rebreeding

Just to be sure buy some semen, make sure it’s alive, breed her.

Plenty of show pigs never have a second litter due to breeding problems.

Re: Hi Point Genetics?

Pure boars would parentage documented.

Ask then if they are banking there crosses.

Not in any way defending these alleged actions - I’ve received semen from boars from other studs that clearly wasn’t what I ordered. The sire documentation is the only way you can be sure.

Dextrose?

Attended a show over the weekend and noticed many show boxes had several bottles of dextrose included.

No IV lines however so must be including in water and/or feed I would think?

What is this used for and how is it used?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Cougar killed showpigs, have back up pig but is light!! Don't want to give up!!

Possible, yes but difficult.

Keep them eating a normal protein ration, do everything you can can to keep them cool. Finnish the last 3 weeks with paylean.

Re: Pulse feeding paylean

That volume of feed is inadequate.

165# pigs should be eating 6# per day.

Re: Pig not eating well/maybe sick?

I’m not sure the pig is ill, rather sounds like he might have some structural issues that cause him discomfort when he stands.

Re: Pulse feeding paylean

You should have zero issue getting your pigs to weight assuming no major illness. Most don’t use the paylean at the way you describe. Just add the last two weeks at the rate where you want your pigs to achieve muscle. 4.5 grams will get you there on growth, 9 gram will more likely change muscle patt...

Big rumpled gilt/top not matching

Gilt I sold this spring, has heavy muscle through rump and ham area but top size does not match. I have 3 littermates at home and they are all proportionate top and rump. Family is feeding an ADM base 18% with 3.75% fat. Current weight 180#. They have every Honor additive I think you can buy as well...

exceptionally common sense move

While China isn’t releasing all details of the ASF outbeak it is widely estimated they have eliminated a sow herd equal or greater in size than the entire sow herd in the USA - so far. There is a reason why 40# feeder pigs are worth more today than 275# market hogs I sold a month ago. If I were a co...

Re: Hamp boars cancelled pedigrees☹️?

I know I have paid for rather expensive semen in the past and would be pretty sure the semen I received was not from the expensive boar. It is very real that cross boars where we have not been recording their dna profiles can be easily substituted by unethical boar studs. We all exercise our rights ...

Re: 2 boars a.i.

Empherical studies have proven that using multiple sires have several advantages over single sires. Sperm from different sires compete for fertilization of the egg as well as the obvious diversity of having one sire better semen quality vs the other .... I use multiple boars as much as possible. No ...

Re: Sow over due

Hormone does not work 100% of the time.

Had a gilt that went 118 days before dropping 13 4# pigs, I had given her 2 cc Lut starting on the PM of day 114 and folllowed up with 2 cc each of the next two days. Her mother does not respond either to hormones.

Re: Hamp boars cancelled pedigrees☹️?

My understanding is that all hamp sires have to meet the 90% standard to record litters farrowed past a certain date.

As long as pigs are sired by a boar that has met standards they are eligible to show from what I have read, however, I could be incorrect.

Re: Purebred Duroc Born with White Foot!!

this was much more common several years ago as the Piet influence was starting to become heavier in the breed. Once in a while the recessive color alleles will line up to express white lower legs. Sounds like your overall numbers with good color worked well. Would not dwell on this a bunch other tha...
