Holding Young Pigs
KGB or any others...need some quick advice. The kid's project animals have a maximum weight for tagging of 150 lbs on 24 JAN 15. Currently the two hamp crossbreds are 137 and 140. Both are averaging right at 2 PPD on free feed HSC 709 with a 20% ground corn additive. We'll need to hold them to no gr...

Cold Weather Feeding
Do you see a dramatic difference in pounds per day of gain in show pigs fed through the summer months compared to winter fed pigs? We are feeding four barrows and a gilt for early spring shows. Tribal lore seems to indicate that they will gain slower during the winter. So far they seem to be trackin...

Re: show pig feed
We've used most of the available "show pig" feeds, and always come back to Purina Honor Show chow. You can't go wrong.

Damaged Pig, Trying to figure out "HOW"
Anyone ever have an unexplained injury. My daughter's 200 pound blue butt gilt was exercised as normal, washed, groomed and put up. 100% normal and no reason to suspect anything. Next morning she is down with a dislocated hip. Ungodly swelling through the left ham, and tender to the touch on the leg...

Re: Powerfill
KGB,
I shot you a note and some weight data to your landolakes email. If you can give me any ideas based off of the data provided it would be appreciated.

Re: Powerfill
I've found the taste takes some getting used to, for the pig that is, and I happen to have a surplus of it on hand that I would like to feed.
Re: Powerfill
How effective is Power fill as a supplement to HSC 709? I've been toying with the idea of supplementing powerfill for its protein boost and lysine content to 100-170 pound market pigs. Is this a recommended use or am I way off course here?

Re: Using Beet pulp
I have held pigs with beet pulp in the past and there is definetly a science to it. Here is my recommendation for holding for a period of 30 days or more on a 230-260 lbs hog. Consult a feed rep for good specific guidance if possible, my Purina rep was instrumental in putting this feed schedule toge...
