Re: Cycle after farrowing
Depends on her condition at weaning. If she is really drawn down than it could be awhile. If she is in good shape than 4-7 days.

Heading to the SWTC in Belton for the first time. Making the trip with a buddy who will be showing a couple of boars. Was wondering if there are opportunities to buy pigs private treaty in the parking lot? Looking for a couple of good Berks to bring back to Northern Ca. Also will have an empty or ne...

Re: milk
No not dripping out on its own, comes out when squeezing her teat. No fluids coming from her vulva.
Just seemed a little early for her to have milk. I double checked the dates and will keep an eye on her. All of the views and no responses so she must be fine.

Re: Breeding without boar
It can be done but it can be very inconsistent. I too have a small operation and have had success breeding without a boar onsite. I have also failed. Once you miss the window for your targeted show it becomes very frustrating and expensive. Timing is only part of the equasion. I am currently planing...

Re: Bred Sow Leaking
Sorry ccpiggin I should have been more clear. She has not farrowed yet, they are still mkoving around in her belly. I do not know what caused the blood on her vulva or the small amount of colored discharge that came out when I had her up and walking. Again it was not very much. At this point I am ju...

Bred Sow Leaking
I purchased a bred sow (2nd parity) on an online auction. Had her shipped out to CA. Received her Saturday. Monday AM noticed a bit of blood on the vulva. Monday PM not eating much, not pooping yet, some dried blood on vulva & tail, no temperature and a bit stiff. Got her out and walked her she ...

Re: How good is your bio-security?
Just purchased a bred gilt and she will be traveling across the us with several other bred gilts from several other farms. Stopping to pickup and drop off pigs along the way. After reading this I am questioning my wisdom or lack there of

Time to AI
Got a couple of questions. Keep in mind small operation one sow with no boar onsite. I only breed her for our county fair so she is left open except for now until January when she farrows. 1) Would you leave her in her outside pen where she has been until she shows signs of heat and then move her to...
