Re: Hamp boars cancelled pedigrees☹️?

I for one got caught off guard by this because I don't breed hamps but decided to have a litter this year. Now I have to add all of this testing into it where it's going to run anywhere from 100-125 per pig. I go to look the hamp I bred to up and see if he's listed and I was told he's grandfathered ...

Re: Boar that produces fast growing pigs

Kind of curious, how many litters have you had with this sow to determine that each of her litters grow slowly?? If you've bred her to different boars and she's had multiple litters it's just like anything in the pig industry. To make a great pig it starts with having a good quality sow, if your sow...

Re: Crossbred boars that fix structure

Saying, "lacks a little bit in structure," is a very broad term. Where does she need fixed at, because some boars are going to help you in one area and not another.

Re: Not sure this is in right place, need guidance

Well since you've worked with the breeder all these years have they ever tried to purchase one back?? If the breeder is actively pursuing and you have couple others people thinking the gilt is special then you might have something worth going to auction with. Breeder really wants her he can determin...

Re: WhAts everybody feeding?

Purina, heard a lot of ppl have had success with Lindner and Moormans. Also depends on what part of the country you are in as far as feed availability and cost. I'm almost convinced any more that most feeds are essentially the same it's the top dressings and finishing products that differ from one b...

hamp boar to help front pasterns?

Have a really nice hamp sow, her one big flaw for me though is that she is down on her front pasterns. She's a lethal x all eyes and I'd like to find the right hamp boar to try and help me in this area if anyone has any suggestions that be great. thanks.

Re: How to make money off of boars?

Obviously you want to get a really good video of him, price him in a range that makes people want to purchase because of the quality he looks like. If not then you best have quite a few sows and patience because until his 1st off spring hit you'll be one of the few using him. If you're in a market w...

Increase water consumption?

Have a pig that is eating well but not gaining the weight I need, she simply doesn't drink a lot compared to years past. Wondering if there's any way to increase water consumption? Thanks

Re: 709 and 909 difference

How does each feed smell?? I had someone tell me the 709 had a banana type smell to it and they didn't know if that's why the pigs took to it so good or not.

709 and 909 difference

Wondering which one is more palatable for the pigs, is one showing a greater intake than another?? I know there's more that goes into how much the pig will eat but I also know there's feeds pigs will prefer over another. thanks

Re: show whips

After taking a showmanship seminar, Sancho whips was recommended. You have to find them on facebook we ordered 2 last year and they were amazing. Worked great, flexible on the whip as you work to keep the pigs head up.

Best crossbred in the rear 1/3

Seems like each year, we get most pigs that are really good in the front 2/3 and then hit and miss in the rear 1/3. Had our best sow this year have her one of her worst litters in terms of overall structure and having her for 4/5 years pretty much know it came from the boar. Now obviously it could'v...

Re: Boar Suggestion

I haven't used him but I know a lot of people of had success with breeding to Sugar Daddy at Mccoys and how he's producing females. I've used exclusive, from Laird's, couple times on the same sow and have gotten some REALLY nice gilts. There was 11 in this last litter and only 2 boars in the group. ...
