Re: Help on feeding
If you have 21 days to your weigh in and your pigs currently weight 220 lbs you have 70lbs to play with. Feeding six 6 lbs a day your pig should avg around 2lbs a day. If you gain 2lbs a day for 21 days you will weigh in around 265. You could increase that to 8lbs of feed split up with 4lbs in the m...

Re: Help on feeding
From reading your information you are not feeding your pigs enough. 1lbs of feed and 1lbs of Oat Groats 2x a day is not nearly sufficient to support a pigs dietary needs. A 220lb pig should be eating about 6-8lbs a day of feed. If you keep with your current feed regiment your pigs will fall apart be...

Re: Barrow weak on back legs HELP
Sounds like nerve damage. If it is muscle then I would suggest rubbing some kind of cream on there to loosen up the muscle. Being so close to the fair I am not sure of withdrawal times so you need to be careful if you give any kind of oral medication. I would keep him penned up until time to go to t...

Re: Gilts with little appetite
I am curious what their current weights are. You can try feeding them and then after 15minues remove the feed and do not give them more until it is the next feeding time. Do that for a couple of days and that may increase their willingness to eat when food is not readily available when they want to ...

Re: Farrowing-C section?
Im not a Vet but have seen conversations on here about C-Sections and none of them have said anything about losing the mother. I would assume that you have a short amount of time before the unborn start to decay and cause a serious infection resulting in you losing the mother. I would suggest making...

Re: Alternatives to shavings?
We put up felt in the bottom of the pens. So from the concrete up to 18 inches we have felt that keeps the shavings from falling out. That cut down on the amount of shavings we used since we just added a bag of fresh shavings every cpl of weeks.

Try giving him a beer or half a beer to see if that will calm him down.

Re: Pigs on concrete getting sores on legs
You need to cover the concrete with shavings. They need as much as you can use. I lined the bottom 18 inches of our pens with felt or rubber so that the shavings do not fall out and I can put a lot of shavings. I would say at least put 8 to 10 inches of shavings in their pens. Then I would add a cou...

If it is sunburn I would treat it the same way you would treat a human. Aloe and make sure and keep sunscreen on it so that she does not burn again. Keep the skin hydrated.

Re: Pulse feeding paylean
Are you feeding this ration 2 times a day. If this is a total daily ration I don't think 2.5# of base feed is not enough feed for a pig that size to meet its nutrition requirements. Feeding the barley at oats is taking up space and not really creating weight gain. I would say replace the barley and ...

Re: Quick topic
What is your target weight. How big is your pig currently. Are you trying to make the minimum weight or are you shooting for the top end of the heavy weight class. The answers to these questions will ultimately determine just how much feed you need. The math says you need to feed 3lbs of base feed f...

If it is possible I would break her feeding up to 3 or 4 times a day. Smaller amounts in the feed bowl means she has less chance to dump it out.

Re: Which feeding direction should I go?
You seem to have it covered. paylean is going to increase what you want increased along with extra gain but it will also burn fat. I would not make any drastic changes while adding the paylean. you do not want to disrupt things this close to the show and go off feed.
