<t>Just some thoughts. A pig that gains 2 1/2 lbs on 3 1/2 lbs of feed will make lots of commercial folks a lot of money. I think you're feeding more Powerfill than you think you are if the weight gain is correct.<br/> <br/> I think either your measurement of Powerfill or your scales weighing the pi...

<t>Fat is energy. Heavily muscled pigs will generally use fat or energy to fuel growth and muscle synthesis until they reach the point in their growth curve when they begin to lay down fat.<br/> <br/> So, it depends upon the size of your pig. However, with that said, early in the growth curve you ca...

<t>To the original poster: First Step is high protein, but very high in energy as well. No need to add eggs, they are already in the feed. <br/> <br/> My suggestion is stay with that feed and add High Octane Power Fuel at 1/2 lbs per day and increase to 1 lbs per day on the third day of feeding it.<...

<t>Your thinking is correct about not limiting too much now. I would allow him to get to 150 - 175 lbs. Then you can feed a 50:50 mixture of Showpig 16 and Powerfill at 4 lbs per day. That will meet all the pig's daily nutrient requirements and then some. <br/> <br/> The barrow should gain about 1.4...

That is very true and feed cookies as a treat to train pigs. But what I meant is that if all the pig eats is cookies and snacks it's just like a kid, it fills us on junk and doesn't want to eat well fortified feeds.

That could be the problem.

<t>Just my opinion, quit feeding her cookies, crackers, human food, and sow feed. If they are being hand fed and both are in the same pen, the more aggressive eater might well be scarfing down the feed before the timid eater has time to consume it.<br/> <br/> Separate the pigs if that is the case. I...

You will be happy to know that Fitter is part of the new HONOR Show Chow lineup. It will more than likely only be available out of our Richmond, IN distribution center. But, the DC services most of the country in one way or another. It just takes some time in some parts of the country.

<t>Well, for the old claim when 18 grams/ton was approved, I think that the 9 grams level produced about 75% of the effect of the 18 grams/ton level. However, that was for growth rate and feed efficiency.<br/> <br/> I would bet that lean tissue synthesis is another story, with the 18 grams/ton produ...

Think you meant 9 grams/ton. If you feed 6 lbs per day of a feed medicated with 9 grams/ton, you'd be feeding the pig 54 mg/day of Paylean.

9 grams per day would be 9000 mg (per day).

<r>Fitter is an old feed that is not available in most of parts of the country. It is intended to limit growth AND decrease fat and increase lean at the same time. That is counter productive to the show ring these days.<br/> <br/> That is why it's not available in most parts of the country. If you w...

<t>You start Paylean at 150 lbs or heavier. Pulse for 14 days at the 9 grams/ton concentration, then take it out for 10-14 and then pulse back in when you need growth. <br/> <br/> But you really scales. Pig weights can be deceiving.<br/> <br/> For the pigs that are being limited in growth rate, it d...
