Re: New showers questions....
First what is your weight limit for your fair? Our show is in February and we generally get them mid October when they weigh 40-60lbs and have a finishing weight of 280+lbs. different breeds of pigs grow pretty similar. Let me know if you need any other advice

Re: Need to drop weight
Lower his feed a bit. I've heard people use 2 qaurts of cranberry juice every day to drop weight before the show. Your pig will also lose some weight on the ride to the show. Let me know how it goes and if you have anymore questions

Re: Showmanship question
The kids that are placing may know the judge and he may be playing favorites. The kids that use their hand to get the pig out of the corner is doing it right as long as they are doing it without the judge seeing but using their hands to turn their pigs or to move them isn't what I've been taught eit...

Re: American Royal auction?
that's pretty risky down here they sell all the pigs that don't place the only pigs that sell at market price are the ones that don't make weight. What is the market price up there?

American Royal auction?
Has anyone shown at the Kansas City American Royal pig show? If so do they auction the pigs off, and how much do they go for? I'm in Florida and plan to show there next year if they have a auction. Thanks

Re: New here - calmer question
don't use cattle calm, just don't do it. use the pig calm. Sullivan supply is a really good product and will calm her down my first gilt liked to run too. she spent the whole time in the showring running if yours does this DO NOT RUN AFTER IT I followed my pig slowly and the judge commented on that....

bad joints
I have a Hampshire X show barrow that is struggling with moving. He doesn't have a good range of motion when stepping up out of the pen. He looks stiff in the morning and doesn't exercise like he's supposed to. He weighs around 110 LBS more or less. Our goal weight is 280 - 290 LBS and I don't think...

Re: Question on putting muscle on certain parts of pigs
Exercise a lot of it if you have deep dirt or sand exercise them in that. I also recommend
power stroke for pigs it is a supplement for muscling.
Good luck

Re: Pig Training
you should start by bonding with the pig, brushing giving them treats and just sitting with them will do it. Do you know what kind of tool you are using? pipe? whip? show stick? cane? Ive used whips for the past two years, be aware that the whip will leave marks on a white pig if popped to hard. int...
