Re: Getting pigs ready for sale.
Moorman's has a feed called Sale Burst. It's a bit higher protein and higher fat for energy. Also has added fiber for fill.

Re: Darin's Pig Pen
That was a really great post! As a father of young ones I think almost daily about what I am instilling in my brood! Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: Late breeding
I hate to say that you probably missed it. I had a similar experience and missed my opportunity. In my experience if your gilt is not standing hard and needs any assistance to stand (feed) then you are on the other side of her heat cycle. There are some areas that are hard to reach overnight for the...

Re: Gilt question
Tough to say...having the heat cycle down is the most important part of the process. Back flow doesn't necessarily mean anything, except that maybe things weren't lined up right with the rod, etc. Without knowing a whole lot about your situation, the second dose at a later time should give you a sho...

You should also have a mild soap for washing and some sort of spray conditioner or shine to keep the skin hydrated and looking good (not dry and scale-y). We use Weavers Swine Conditioner and Shine (its a spray bottle and pink liquid, not the aerosol). For soap you could use a human shampoo or we us...

Re: "Stretch feeding"
I am not sure that this would be the greatest idea...showpigs, especially as they get heavier, are somewhat fragile in the joint areas. In addition they can be aggressive when eating that would make them more prone to injury using this system. Nothing works better for muscle than good ol' genetics, ...

Re: Heavy Weight question
You could do that...but you would be possibly adding fat cover too soon. We use a product called Liquid Boost by Vita Ferm and Sure Champ pellets. Both these products are designed to keep appetite up and they work! Liquid Boost is just a squirt in the mouth or top dressed over feed, really easy to u...

Re: Seperating show pigs
Interesting post as I was just thinking about this. We always separate them after 100lbs or so, but they are still in pens right next to each other. We recently started working them individually and have seen an improvement in their focus and drive. I highly recommend doing what it takes to "br...

Re: Weight gain and belly
I would add Purina Ultra Full and Depth Charge. Start small and work up. Also, I would feed them as much as they will eat. As a rule of thumb we feed at least 6lbs after they reach 150lbs. This will also help with fill. I'm not sure how your fat condition looks, but I would also add that (we like th...

Re: HELP need to gain before show
That's not very much daily feed. They should be consuming at least 6 lbs per day as a rule and at least 5.75lbs for paylean use to be legal.
I would increase feed if possible, slop (wet) the feed, and try milk replacer to encourage consumption.

Re: Feeding Hamp Gilt
Have you tried Milk Replacer? I also like the Vita Charge and Sure Champ products to stimulate appetite. They make one called Spark that might help get her going. In terms of fill you need to be feeding something along the lines of Purina Ultra Full. We have been using this product since it came on ...

Re: Best show pig feed / program
We are currently using a blend...We use Moorman's and Purina fill products like Ultra Full and Depth Charge. I like the high fat options that Moorman's offers, although in general the feed is more expensive. Just as an observation it seems that our pigs have gone off feed less frequently with this p...

Re: C'MON vs. American bad boy
They are both beasts in terms of bone and power. I think ABB is slightly longer bodied. I would look at the Heimer pigs sired by ABB and the Hi Point pigs sired by C'mon. I think Heimer uses slightly lighter boned females than Hi Point.

Re: Show box opinions
We use the Weaver deep hanging box. It's the galvanized version and is really tough and has a ton of room. The handles on the side make for easy carrying with 2 people. They also make a shorter one that may fit your needs for quick and easy transportation.
