I have never topdressed with it. I always just mix it in the grinder. I would imagine 1/4 to 1/2 lb per day would work. You will have to weigh it somehow so you know how much. Start low and work up gradually or they will get loose on you.

It is still cheaper pound for pound than a lot of the other fat topdresses. I can buy a 35 lb jug for $27. It is 100% fat versus most of the milk fats which are 70% which cost about twice as much. The downside is that the milk fat ones taste better.

<t>I have thought from the moment that Moyers bought the boar that they bought him to breed to their own sows first and secondly to sell semen. I see the boar working extremely well on their sows and by next fall they will have a pretty good lineup of sons of the boar. They probably aren't too conce...

5 - 6 days after weaning is pretty normal. I get some come in at day 4 but 5 days is definitely the average with 6 not being uncommon.

<t>Boy I sure would hate to have to breed like this. A boar would make your life a lot easier when it comes to breeding. It is hard to tell if they just weren't standing well because of lack of stimulation or if they were really even in heat. It sounds like the first one was at least on the first do...

<t>I usually drop the protein on gilts, especially ones being shown as breeding gilts, quicker than barrows. I would also recommend slopping her with milk replacer and using some fat products such as Sumo and maybe some filler like Full Tank. You are going to want to get as much consumption into her...

<t>Well, when they first started requiring them, back in early nineties, AIing was just getting started. My dad was on the Duroc board at the time and it was instituted to discourage people from AIing. The guys on the board figured they were in the business of selling boars and not selling semen. Th...

<t>If you are losing 3 out of 10, changing feed is not going to do much. Pigs don't die because of which starter they are on. I really think most of you troubles are coming from their environment. Like someone suggested something as simple as building a shelter out of straw bales with a plywood lid ...

I would worry more about nipple quality and spacing than I would about total number. I will take 14 good quality and well spaced nipples any day over 16 that weren't as good. All else being equal, I guess more is better but I would be shocked if a judge used it to place one over another.

<t>If you are feeding December pigs for an August show and struggling to make weight, something is seriously wrong. I worry about showing late January pigs at our show which is second week of August because of having to hold some of them too long. If the pigs are healthy when you get them and you ar...

When you send in the DNA sample they are just banking it. They don't do anything with it unless they need to at some point.

These are the gilts I like to put back in the herd more so than the ones that are ideal for the show ring. It is easy to find boars that will downsize them and do exactly what you are wanting. I like my sows to have a little more size to them.

I had also heard that On The Verge needed protected on his rear legs a bit. I was told that is why he placed where he did at the show. I haven't used him or seen him in person but was told by a breeder to bring him to something that was good off her rear legs.
