<t>I was talking to Dr. Hendrickson about how most people on here feed. He scoffed at the idea that by holding back feed late is going to make for smaller pigs. He said they will just pull from reserves and the pigs will be just as big as if they fed a normal ration but the gilt will not have as muc...

<t>I have only had maybe one per litter on average at most. I have had more with not enough belt on them than too much white. I used Oh My as well (same mom as Above All with both having too much white on rear leg as well as their mom) and had the same results. All of these have been out of Augusta ...

<t>I am confused. You say the labor was long but say that they are having them every 20 minutes on average. This seems pretty normal to me. The only times that I have had a sow farrowing "normally" and had a lot of stillborns the pigs were coming out with the cord detached already. They suffocated d...

I would look at Above All at Kilmers. He will do everything you are wanting. I have had 3 litters from him so far and all have been really wide based and square to the ground with a ton of bone and a lot of rib to them.

<t>By the time a pig reaches 3 weeks old its nutritional needs to reach its potential exceeds what most sows can provide at that time. Their milk supply usually starts dropping at the point as well so unless they are also eating well while on the sow they will do better weaned. This forces them to e...

<t>I bet your timing was probably pretty good with the one dose that you got into her. I don't think I have ever got one bred when the only dose that I put into her was at the very end of standing heat when they will barely stand. I haven't had to do this except for a few times when they were going ...

<t>That is my concern as well. Also, if I can't get the pig through the pelvis, I can't get the forceps to hold strong enough to get it through as well. I have both the forceps and the snare and have only been sucessful with the snare. I also have a hard time maneuvering the snare to get it in place...

<t>How much colostrum did they get before she died? If they got enough it really isn't too bad keeping them going if you have a good milk replacer. It has been mentioned on here before, the Ralco Birthrite is an excellent milk replacer if you can get a hold of it quickly. In a pinch I have used goat...

<t>You can buy it by the dose but you just need to be aware of the potential problem if exposed to much light. I was just irritated that no one knew about this problem when they sold me the product in order to warn people ahead of time. They really need to put a warning on the bottle that they repac...

<t>Yes, I found out the hard way that the clear bottles do not work for keeping sunlight out. I bought a half a bottle and did five sows with it. All five cycled just like they normally would have without being treated. I talked to one of the specialists who works for the maker of Matrix about the p...

<t>I guess piecey is not exactly what I meant. What I meant is I would use him for pieces that I like about him but there are things that I really didn't like also. He didn't have much center rib to him when I saw him in September unlike the picture at the show and I question how much of what he had...

At $300 a dose my bet is not many tried. I saw him in September and while I liked him well enough I wouldn't have paid $300 for him. For me he was too piecey.

<t>I think barrows are easier to feed on average than gilts, especially for beginners. The only problem I run into with barrows is having to hold them pretty hard sometimes. Gilts tend to need to be played with more whereas most barrows can be started on 20% switched to 18% midway with a little payl...

If I have three doses this is exactly why I don't change much on the timing on the first two doses. I might breed just a little early on the first knowing I have an extra but I save the third for just in case they stand long. When they send an extra I often end up not using it.
