Axe body spray is supposed to help hormonally charged teens so you may try that.
Honestly, sows need to want to stand. Sounds like you have a good teaser boar so you are doing your part. You can try forcing the semen in as a last resort with the boar present.

Re: HELP! Can't get pigs bred!
CTC is fed at 400 gram per ton which is the highest labeled rate. You do have to have a VFD to use as it falls under the feed antibiotic mandate. Feed your normal 4-5# head/day for 10 days. Yes, you could inject LA 200 but would require multiple shots. A vet could guide you on that use. My sows gest...

Re: HELP! Can't get pigs bred!
There are multiple possibilities for breeding issues. 1. Run 400 gram CTC in feed for at least 10 consecutive days. We experience periodic infertility and this cleans up any issues for me. 2. Vaccinate all twice with Farrowsure B. Again after every litter. 3. Keep boar penned from sows, no fence lin...

Transitioning baby pigs from milk to pellets
Have never used supplemental milk for sows. If they can’t raise pigs they get to meet bob Evans. Had my elite cross sow farrow 16 live 3# pigs may 26. She can wean 10 at her best naturally. Next two sows had ample sized litters and not much room to transfer. So have a few pigs that have been doing V...

Re: Scrotal hernia
There are always different levels of scrotal ruptures, some actually never expand and look like normal testicles. Others blow up like balloons. The minor ones I fix myself as it is a very simple procedure, the bigger ones I will have a vet do the surgery. Every vet is different on pricing for the pr...

Re: pig with blood in its feces
Sometimes stools will have a bit of fresh red blood. Unless there is a large volume of liquid it isn't much to be concerned about.
If its fresh red blood it came at the end of the digestive process. Its much more of a concern if blood is entering much earlier in the process.

Just have to keep the Koala’s at bay. Couldn’t resist.
Can’t imagine this ..... pine shavings give off a massive odor cloud in a barn. If they are potent I would think not but if mild as opposed to the levels of the plants I’m not sure of a downside.
This is a new one.

Re: Sow delivered early?
7 days early is possible but usually results in underdeveloped pigs that struggle to survive. I had a gilt once delivered at 109 days and was able to wean 4 of 7 born.

Re: C section piglets won't suckle.
I would think the sow was heavily sedated during the surgery. Her blood is the pigs blood. Her drugs are in the pigs.
Just keep them warm and they will wake up eventually. Keep in mind the dose used makes the impact. It’s a fine line on sedation levels. Hav ego trust your vet.

Re: current semen prices
You simply ask. Either earn $$$$ or dump down sink.
Terminal/maternal pooled semen should be $8/10 dose. U can’t dictate terms or boars, that is fair.
Several arrogant studs won’t discount off season. You simply need to find the ones that do.

Worm them and give mycoplasmal vaccine.
One of two things, worms or mycoplasmal pneumonia.
Use exceed when they cough and if that does not work it’s likely not weather related pneumonia.

Exceed is expensive but works well.
La200 can also be a good choice as well.

Re: best timing for AI-HELP!
As to swelling and mucous discharge - in my experience these can be highly variable across pigs and heat cycles. Some gilts can have strong heat with little to no swelling of the vulva at all while others it is very obvious. If you don’t have A teaser boar the boar in a can stuff can work well. I al...

Re: best timing for AI-HELP!
The advice above is correct but I’ll try to add more detail. 1. Pigs heat cycle is 21 days but always can vary a few days plus minus. 2. Watch the female heat patterns and record standing heat to better time semen. 3. When you certify gilt is in standing heat try to breed about 12 hours later, then ...

Re: young gilt
No panic yet. 6 mos is still young. If you want to help start her cycle induce some stress. Mix with another gilt, put in trailer and haul her around for an hour. ExPose her to a teaser boar for 10-15 minutes a day. I don’t think there is any pg600 available and has not been for over a year. This ma...
