Re: Berkshires

This is for barrows. Not sure if there are more rigid rules for breeding stock.

Re: Another "What's Fair?"

Sorry Darin. Not that CL. :D I haven't sold any bred females since last summer and it doesn't look like I will sell any this summer. When you deal with Craigslist you run into all kinds of people. I have been selling all my gilts with absolutely zero warranty. They were alive when the left and that ...

Another "What's Fair?"

Bobthepigs post got me thinking about something that happened to me last summer. It all started in a sort of similar situation. I sold a pig 60ish days bred for $550. She was just a pig bred to my boar sold on CL. I was going to cull her, but she would work out just fine to make freezer pigs. The gu...

Re: What's Fair?

There was no stuck pigs. Vet and I both checked! Live stock maybe not my thing but we have raised live stock ( my family) since early 60's so maybe it's not our thing but it's what we do! Lol and she was by her self the whole time even in the farrowing house! I realize there were no stuck pigs, but...

Re: What's Fair?

Bob, I think you need to put your money towards something else because livestock is not your thing. Livestock can be deadstock in the blink of an eye. Just because the contract didn't say you should quarantine the new stock any producer worth his salt would do it. In addition, a dead piglet stuck in...

I prefer foam hands down. I often have pigs clamp down on the white spirals so hard they will not flow semen.

Re: lute

So---do they give classes on the PQA materials to help to teach the small hobby folks to be responisble breeders or do we have to dig through it and find what makes sense....I would like to learn more, but figuring it all out on my own gives me a brain freeze. Up here you have to be PQA certified i...

<r>Whether you are big or small, hobby or full time it is YOUR responsibility to be a quality manager. Unless EVERY pig is born, dies, and is consumed by you on your farm they hit the open market. I don't care if you "never" sell a pig at the yards, they all hit the yard someday.<br/> It is better t...

But as pig producers we are required to abide by the PQA guidelines. That is not just a wrong answer, that is breaking the law!

NEVER give shots to pigs in the butt area and do NOT lute if you are not completely sure of the breeding date. Piggy What part of PQA didn't he understand!?! This is why the packing industry hates show pigs. Never give lut to a pig you are unsure of the breeding date. So, your correct dose should b...
