<r>You are on the right track. If you don't want negative reactions to vaccines don't go with Dr. Hendriksens vaccine cocktails.<br/> <br/> I am on the same protocol, but with different tradenames.<br/> <br/> HogDoc did a good writeup on vaccination protocol on <URL url="http://www.swinebarn.com">ww...

<t>34 days left at 2 lb/day and he will come in at 216. I think you are sitting in good shape. It is no wonder he isn't getting huge bc 3 lbs of feed usually works out to 1 lb of pig. Most pigs at that age eat a hair more than 7 lbs.<br/> I would pour the coals to him. You have plenty of room to giv...

Re: new and need advice

<r>- Read the forum, this question has been asked in many forms, many times. Search and old posts are your friend.<br/> - Yes, you can tell they are bred if you know what you are looking at. When they are in the last month anybody could tell. Also, bred pigs don't come into heat so that is a dead gi...

I can't knock Shaffer's. I stuck 2 of 3 on their semen. Not real sure why the third didn't stick. Littermate sisters weaned and bred at the same time...whatever.

putting a virgin boar in a pen with sows/gilts is not likly to get anything bred if they intimidate him the least bit. Your best bet if not collecting him is to take each and every one to HIS pen twice a day to check for heat. Good luck. Piggy I do them in groups, but that is how you should do it.

Move from crate to pen at 5-7 days here and I love it. The sows look better after weaning and the piglets do really well.

I've never heard of one coming in heat 42 days later. Are you sure you didn't miss her at day 21? Hopefully she will settle with the boar. That's what I'm thinking. There is a lot of coincidence to be exactly two heat periods out. I think a lot of this show gilts not coming in is feeding for show n...

I would also like to add watching their ears. Erect ear pigs will pin them back/up even straighter when in heat. It is a dead giveaway.

<t>I am not sold on this boar having to be far away theory. A local producer runs about 30 gilts and houses a pair of boars right between them. It works perfect for him. You should see the gilts line up to get bred after they eat.<br/> Some have mentioned studies that show distance helps create long...

I think there is WAY too much focus on looks and little, if any thought on reproductive and meat qualities. Hog shows are becoming what steer shows are today. Nothing more than beauty pagents that have little value on selecting premium offspring and breeding stock.
