Guidance for Synchronizing and AI'ing
We have sold a few of the kids' gilts to a lady that has bred them naturally in the past. She is looking to AI and asking for help from us. Where can I direct her to see the best protocol for matrix, timing of semen order, etc.? Also, where is a good source of proven genetics for her to order semen ...

Re: Grand barrow at Illinois kicked out
I heard the generic explanation earlier and assumed there was a hydrocortisone residue from the cream in question. I understand now that it was a Benadryl residue.
I'd be interested in knowing the basics of Benadryl testing, sensitivity, false positives etc.

Head-Up Training
Kids have a couple pigs that definitely need to be trained to walk "head-up" to best present the pig in the ring. Question is: what is your tip or trick to best accomplishing this? We've done it a number of ways over the years and am guessing there is something I am missing. Thanks in adva...

Re: How do you get pigs to eat Purina HSC HO Depth Charge?
Question that still has not been answered is, how do you feed depth charge when you are wet-feeding?
And, if you are dry feeding and bumping the depth charge up, we have gotten to the point where some pigs sort some of the DC out. \
Anyone out there have any tricks they would like to share?

Paylean options
We have struggled in the past to get the kids' pigs to readily eat their paylean. Last year we used a powdered paylean, I believe it was a showmaster product, and it worked well, as far as getting them to consume it. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone using a powdered paylean? What are you guys u...

Re: Treats/Slop to give oral meds.
As Mary posted, marshmallows. But we use just enough marshmallow to contain a pill. Too much and it takes too long to eat and increases the chance of a pig "finding" it and spitting it out. Other options include applesauce, a slurry made with milk replacer, apples etc. you need to find out...

Another Holding Question
Kids have a barrow we are trying to hold for the next 10 days. We don't have access to the feeds many mention on here. Just basic feedstuffs and the pig feed we already have which are some hi fat lo protein (Mello), Show Rite ez-tone and 40-90 and team 18 and some S'More fill and Moormans Moorbody. ...

Fly Control
Looking for ideas on fly control. We have our kids' pigs outside but under an open faced shed so the are shaded and somewhat protected from any breeze we might get. The problem this year is that we have experienced a huge influx of flies. We try to keep feed cleaned up, but pigs being pigs, feed is ...

Training pig to walk with head up
My daughter is in her second year of 4H and showing pigs. I am trying to get her to train her pig to walk with her head up.
The gilt is a energetic and a little chargey so she often runs off with her trying to catch back up.
Any suggestions and tips on getting a pig to be more up-headed.

Re: Low-Level Paylean
What I am looking to do is increase intake and gain a bit. In this case, I don't need more muscle on this gilt, just a little higher level of performance.

Low-Level Paylean
Looking to see if anyone has a link to some research or actual experience of feeding low-levels of paylean to just up intake and boost performance without adding a lot of muscle? We have a gilt with a ton of muscle and shape and know she doesn't need more and probably can't handle much more. But, we...

Re: Stagnant Weight
After incorporating HogDoc's treatment protocol for ulcers, my daughter's gilt seems to be responding within 12 hours. Time will tell but her attitude has improved along with a little more appetite so we are hopeful that this is the beginning of turning the corner and back to gaining in the next 2 w...

Re: Stagnant Weight
I am beginning to suspect an ulcer, or something similar which is diminishing her appetite. But, I guess I don't truly know the symptoms of an ulcer to know for certain.
Suggestions would be helpful from anyone who has experienced a similar situation.

Stagnant Weight
My daughter has a gilt that has plateaued on her weight. She has maintained a steady 245 lbs for over a week now. Intake is up and down, 4-6+ lbs per day. Can't seem to find that 1 THING that will get her really excited and up her intake over an extended period of time. We've tried many different mi...
