Re: Aborted litter?

Sometimes sows and especially gilts will seem pregnant and then just abort. Pigs are unpredictable and with unpredictability comes things that seem strange. Like your gilt not coming back into heat after she aborted. I would say your pigs body just hasn't fully recovered after aborting yet. If she d...

Re: Cut nipple

I would give her antibiotics just in case. But she will probably be fine without.

Re: Best breed for temperment & training

I have to agree with all the previous posts. it all really depends on the pigs personality. though I do want to give some advice on durocs. most durocs are hardheaded and aren't as easy to train. their "broken ears" make them want to keep their heads on the ground so they can see better. I...

Re: easy going show pig?

I have never heard of giving your hog something to calm them down, so I'm just as curious as you. All I can say is practice makes perfect and good luck.

Re: Free breeding to this Boar

A few questions:
1. What is his pedigree?
2. Is he related to any other champions?
3. What is your location?
,more information would be great

Re: Stubborn pig!

Hi! It sounds like your pig needs to learn who's boss. Stubborn pigs are a pain but can be worked with. Try rewarding him when he does something right. A good experience may be just what he needs. Also you might try teaching him in the pen first if it is big enough. If you need further help there is...

Re: Seperation anxiety with litter mates

I've had a similar problem before with 2 pigs before. I would do a couple things to solve the problem. 1 try moving the pigs into different pens so they cannot see each other. If this is not possible put a large piece of plywood in between their pens again so they can't see each other. 2 the gilt so...

Re: **** What would you do ****

I know what your'e going through I once had a pig that could barely walk on her back leg after an injury. I would try DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide gel). You should be able to get it at yor local feed store. Though just in case I would get a backup pig. Hope my advice helps let us know how it goes.

Re: show whips

I will have to recommend sullivans, I once had a weaver whip that broke after one day of use. A 39 or 40in should be right on length it all depends on how tall u r and how big the pig is.

American Royal Questions

This is my first time to go to the American Royal, could someone help me find some answers?
1. How do you get water?
2. What do I bring for a pen divider?
3. Any thing I should know before I get there?
