confused what type of pigs are winning this year
Hi I'm a confused about what is winning now I thought the judges we're looking for a lot of muscle big bone wide base with a small amount of cover on them. last year at two of the fair the pics at won where nice hogs but they looked like they were on steroids. they didn't have any cover on them at all just massive muscle could someone send me some pictures the Grand Champion Hogs so I know what to do. I dont know if show try and put cover on them or not. Thanks very much.

Depends on the judge. Maybe someone can help you if you can tell us who your judge is...

The number one thing we heard at the majors on 2015/16 was too much cover. In other words more muscle definition and mass. has some great pigs with more than enough mass, that if i would have had less cover on by 10# would have been in the running. we ALWAYS ask the judge what he'd change about our pig.llhorseygal61 wrote:Hi I'm a confused about what is winning now I thought the judges we're looking for a lot of muscle big bone wide base with a small amount of cover on them. last year at two of the fair the pics at won where nice hogs but they looked like they were on steroids. they didn't have any cover on them at all just massive muscle could someone send me some pictures the Grand Champion Hogs so I know what to do. The couple of county fairs I have gone too, I would back this up. The ones that have won are the ones with a lot of muscle but they are still loose enough in their joints to motor around with ease. Also, these county fair were in the Midwest. Hope this helps.SPRINGBRANCH wrote:The number one thing we heard at the majors on 2015/16 was too much cover. How do you loose a little too much cover ?
Re: confused what type of pigs are winning this year
Higher protein feed with paylean will do the trick. Don't add fat if you need to lose cover.

We have got our barrow on fitter35 champion drive 18% honor show chow 708 and calf manna. We cant get paylean here without ordering it. And we walk him 45 minutes at night. He is firming up some. Hope this helps.

you can try a starter feed, the high protein and lysine will harden it up.
