Pet pig questions

Post by Paula1101 » Sat Sep 17, 2016 9:30 pm

Hey folks! In a few months my husband and I are moving to an old farm house with property and once we have it securely fenced, I want to get a couple pet pigs.

Can anyone tell me if males (barrows) can get along long term or would we be better off with females?

Also are there any breeds that are more "user friendly" than others? We especially like the hereford and poland china breeds but are not set on anything yet.

Thanks so much!

Not to tell you what to do, but if your planning on just keeping them as pets,I'd stay away from commercial breeds they grow way too fast in 2 years you will have 400 to 500lbers walking around, maybe look into some of the smaller hertige breeds like Mule foots or Magalistas they don't grow as fast ,but I do agree with Springbranch go with barrows

Kune Kune pigs are a smaller breed -- and kind of cute. They may work well if you are looking to keep the pigs as pets.
