Ideas for keeping dirt pen dry around waterer
Looking for ideas on what to put under the pig waterer in a dirt pen. Seems like they always play with the waterer and make a mud mess to lay in. Other than pouring a concrete pad, what have others used?

Even on concrete the still make a sloppy wet mess, the only two things I've used that I can suggest is to use straw to help keep it dry and if it's possible consider welding a catch pan on the post under the nipple,I did that on mine doesn't keep it 100 percent dry but it helps and they seem to drink the water out of the pan first before they use the nipple

Dig a hole underneath waterer and fill whole with larger rock and then cover with smaller clean gravel. May help

We have done a couple of things.
One we had a concrete pad where they watered slanted to the outside of the pen. We dug a deep hole out side where the water ran out and filled it with gravel. This worked great.
Another one we put a hanging feeder under and dumped it everyday. We put a hook on the side that we could unclip to dump and clip back so they couldn't flip it out themselves. This worked really well. The area was still wet but nothing like it was without the feeder under it.

I don't know how your nipple is hooked up now but if you use a gravity type system there is very little pressure so less water comes out.
Don't squat with your spurs on.
