Weight help please 14 days!

Post by adamjohn » Mon Dec 05, 2016 10:17 pm

Weigh in day @ fair is July 5th today I did the measuring tape calculation on my sons pig and my calculations have her to light. She needs to be from 210 to 280 and it says she at 194. We are now hand feeding but can't get her to eat more than 1.5 to 2 lbs at a time. She gets excited about her food but keeping her eating it sometimes is the hard part. She is drinking a lot of water it seems so I am not worried there, it's just her eating. Our plan for the next two weeks is to feed 4 times a day 7, 11, 3, & 7. My daughter had pigs in 4H and they never had issues they would just eat this pig it is so hard to keep her interested. Anyone have any tricks that I can do to get her to eat more at a time? Also if she finishes her feed at a feeding do we give her more? Please help really stressing here

Do you mean January 5th??
You really need to weigh on a regular scale. Don't know how accurate the tapes are. You really need to know what she is gaining per day.

What are you feeding her? What's the protein and fat content? Could she handle Paylean at the end?

Please provide more info. so we can give you some educated advice.

She likes water I would be wet slopping her feed and put 1 oz of Dyne or Dial N into the water that you use to wet slop with to add more calories.

4 times a day probably won't help the intake much. too many crosses especially have poor appetites, which makes them hard to change. i would try paylean and definitely slop.

you don't say what feed she is on. I would slop with milk replacer three times a day in her feed. Make sure she has been wormed out. Keep warm in cold, cool in heat. good luck. we are feeding two pure hamp gilts and a pure duroc gilts, all July born. They are all hand fed and slopped. The duroc is gaining 3 lbs. a day, the hamps 2.1 lbs. a day. It makes a difference. If you don't have another pig with yours, they just don't like to eat. they need competition to eat.

Definitely slop the pig. Explode (paylean) should help the appetite.

Piggy what are you feeding ( what and how much) to get a 3lb adg? PM if needed.

We are feeding Moormans 18% along with 4 gms of paylean and slopped with milk replacer two times a day. Also feeding yaggies and keeping them wormed out and warm. Each gilt is eating approx. 8 lbs. of feed a day for now.

steam rolled oats, looks like oatmeal, won't help much with weight gain, but keeps the stomach calm and expands it.
