Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer
Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer
How many of you pull an aluminum low profile with a 1/2 ton truck? I have a 1/2 ton GMC with a 350 engine and will be purchasing a trailer within the next month or so. I am going to either purchase a 16' or 20'..... 16' i know wouldnt be that much of a problem, but how bout 20' trailer loaded with 8 show pigs? Whats your thoughts?

go to: www.rvdreams.com and do a search. It will tell you exactly how to figure the weight that your truck can pull safely. Do NOT go by what people, dealer, etc tell you. It is a numbers game.

I am looking for people's experiences... I know I can find out safely what my truck can pull
Re: Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer
How old is your truck if it still has a 350 in it? How are your springs and shocks? What is the weight of the trailer and what is the towing capacity of your vehicle. I have seen people pulling very large campers with mid sized SUV's and it has ended badly for them especially on the interstate at highway speed. I understand it will be low pro but do the math before you buy.

What year is the truck. Having a 350 I'm assuming it's a pre 2000 model.

Pull 6 x 16 steel trailer all the time with half ton Silverado. 3000# of pigs in the trailer make her sag more than I like so would not not want to long haul that volume but for small lots no issue.
No those poor saps with f 150's that won't pull greased crap from a ducks butt ............ just kidding. They work great as well.

Re: Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer
We pull an 18' (not low-profile) with 4,000lbs. of market hogs in it with our F150. Barely can tell it's back there. Even with your older truck, 8 showpigs is not much. You should be fine.

Re: Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer
Either one would be fine. Used to pull a 16' steel trailer packed full with pigs all over the place with a GMC 1500 with a 350. Only time I had an issue was trying to run 75 across Arkansas and Missouri into a 25mph headwind. Made it home to IL getting 7.5 mpg. Got 10-11 most of the time tho
