Pig feed

Post by c farmer » Sun Apr 23, 2017 7:49 pm

I am going to buy my pig feed from my cousin. Then maybe some additives later on. I am also buying some cross breads from him.

He starts them at 19% protein then adds more energy later on to build muscle.

Sound ok?????

Feeding can be complex and It sounds like you might have it a little backwards. Energy (fat usually) doesn't add muscle per say, muscle comes from protein. Energy will help with growth overall and condition (the fat covering the muscle). It's possible that you could feed a 19% ration the entire time, but I do believe you would be limiting the potential of your animal...in very general terms protein % would get lower the closer you get to market weight.

You are correct, I forgot to say he lowers the protein later on while adding more energy.
