I read a lot of the information on this website to gain different perspectives of raising showpigs. However, I've never posted anything to date, but wanted to get thoughts on this. This looks political to me and the timing of the cancellation is convenient as there are national discussions about the Tariffs and exports related to pork. Is this something that is a threat or is this being sensationalized like our society seems to do now days.

To me canceling expo is very precautionary, but if that is what it takes to keep that virus out of the US i am all for it. If that bug would make it here you probably could forget about showing any pigs for a long time. Hopefully it will only be for one year.

exceptionally common sense move

While China isn’t releasing all details of the ASF outbeak it is widely estimated they have eliminated a sow herd equal or greater in size than the entire sow herd in the USA - so far.

There is a reason why 40# feeder pigs are worth more today than 275# market hogs I sold a month ago.

If I were a consumer and had freezer space I would be buying every pound of pork I could at a reasonable price today and enjoying later this summer when retail prices change.

I know our government is working to keep this disease out of North America but it’s hard to imagine doing so with as much international travel and tourism that exists. Stay tuned.
